Best advise I could give is to call your dealership & ask them.

kc5zom September-9th-2002 11:22 PM

I will say this. I have taken my battery off several times and deliberately reset the ECU (the old brake light trick) once and never had a problem with my keyless entry. Maybe you disconnected or broke something when you were installing your system?

If you don't think you did the damage then take it to the dealer. If you have a warranty they will probably fix it for you without even bothering to ask any questions.

According to http://www.howstuffworks.com/remote-entry2.htm

Try this:
1) Turn the ignition key on and off eight times in less than 10 seconds. This tells the security system in the car to switch over to programming mode.
2) Press a button on all of the transmitters you want the car to recognize. Most cars allow at least four transmitters.
3) Switch the ignition off.

This should re-synchronize the transmitters with the code the car's receiver is expecting. Make sure you do it for all the transmitters you own for the car, or the other ones will get out-of-synch.
If you try this, lemme know how it goes. I have no idea if this actually works or not ....

Aw, that sucks. I bet there's some kludgey set of steps to follow like this to fix it, but I guess only the dealer can tell ya'. If you do find out more info, please post it!

could u please explain in detail the brake light trick to reset the ECU?

kc5zom September-13th-2002 08:26 PM

I think this has been explained elsewhere but oh well...

1. Take off the negative battery cable.
2. Place the cars ignition in the ready position.
3. Hold down the brakes for a little while.

Supposed to be enough power consumption to drain the residual power left in the system when you disconnect the battery. You have to give your engine some time afterwards to retrain itself(about 30 seconds to a minute). But if you have the battery disconnected for more than a few minutes it usually resets itself.

Program mode

I've had my P5 for about 6 weeks now. The first remote stopped working after 3 weeks; I switched to the back-up and it stopped working also, about two weeks later.

I was going to take it to the dealer, but I'd like to save a trip if I can easily do this program mode myself. I tried the above procedure, but couldn't get it to work. "Driver's side door switch" -- you mean the door "unlock all" switch on the panel, or the latch at the top of the panel near the window? Does the car give some signal to let you know that it's in program mode?

Thanks.

Battery Check?

Uh, yeah. Why hasn't anyone mentioned the possibility that the remote control battery died? If you've tried everything else why not just pick up a $2.50 new watch battery and see if that works!?

P5Fretless October-22nd-2002 01:11 PM

Yeah, that was my first thought too, which is why I didn't run off to the dealer. But when the second one died, I thought that was too much of a coincidence, especially on a brand new car. But I went ahead and replaced the battery on one, and it made no difference.

DOOR SWITCH

What I was refering to was the "door pin switch" located at hte bottom of the B pillar-push that 3x's.

P5Fretless October-22nd-2002 08:28 PM

Ah! Duh -- that makes sense. I just went out and tried it, and it worked! Thanks!! Saved me a trip to the dealer.

Just out of curiosity, is there a "best" way to get the car out of program mode?

I wonder why the remotes went out in the first place. (Maybe it's my magnetic personality?)
