Please help ..serious electrical problem...(guages)

:tear: Hey pplz... when i got my 3rd gen 1999 1.6L DX... I wanted 2 change her appearance on the inside.. so I was browsing online and purchased a set of euro reverse glow guages... and me and my frnd did the install ourselves....the problem is everything is not accurate reading it's like it reads what it wants to when it wants to...??? and my biggest problem is that the fuel guage doesn't even work @ all....lolz but it all of them light up properly...??? I just don't understand...?? and the thermostat guage & speedometer have been working but it just seems like it reads what it wants 2 read and not the proper way it should.... I have asked ppplz around here in ny and sum tell me to just get them re-calibrated, others tell me I need a new cluster,..??/ I honestly don't know what to do...?? THANKS and I would reallie appreciate your help.....

Wow, wish I could help, but I am completely stupid with electrical stuff.
Free bump, though...

when you did that install did you remove the needles? but unfortunatelly the way it sounds you may need a cluster

Isabelle99 January-29th-2006 08:19 PM

Hey yeah I believe we did that.....b/c the middle of the gauge couldn't go around the whole needle....I'm reallie guessing that was the dumbest hing to do now wasn't it..???is there anyway i can fix it... I am open 2 any suggestions you may have b/c I am in desperate need 2 get these guages reading properly.....

only way i know is by replacing the cluster, but i heard alot of people just taking a razor blade to the white face and making a very fine cut

well if u took off the needles they probably need to be recalibrated. The only thing I can think is that u need to take it to a local dealer or mechanic and have your gauges recalibrated. That is probably your only hope besides buying a new cluster. But they should be able to be recalibrated at a shop. That is what i would do.

dear buck SORRY it took so long to reply back 2 you... anwayz how much do you reallie think the dealership will charge me 2 re-calibrate them??? or even a regular shop?? If you could kindly give me an estimate if you might know...?? THANKS again appreciate the help.....

You know to be honest with you, Im really not sure. But If I were to guess, I would think no higher than $100 ? But then again I have no Idea what is involved with recalibrating gauges. Sorry I can't give u a better estimate. Maybe call the dealership and just ask them. Tell them your situation and see what they say. Who knows, maybe it is a ten minute $30 dollar fix. But one thing is for sure, you can almost guarentee the dealership is going to charge way more than you would think they should, but it might be your only option aside from buying a new cluster. What I would do is first call the dealer and see what they say, then call a reputable shop near by and see what they say.

Anyone else got any ideas....?
