pathetic horn

How many of you have replaced the sickly, stock horn on the new P5's. It's really sad. You're driving down the road looking all good and for whatever reason you have to use that horn. Kill's the whole deal!

lol. You've got that right. It'd be nice to replace it with a horn from an old Buick or something. If the mood ever strikes me, I may have to pick one up at the junk yard.

I met a guy with a Protege ES a few weeks ago at a Chicago Area meet. He had replaced his horn with one from a Mercedes. Said it was extemely easy to do, and damn did it sound more manly than the squeeker I have on my car...

LMAO
I agree..
I don't even like using my horn b/c of that..it's embarasing :p

lol Same here. I always thought it sort of sounded like the road runner...lol

In my tendency to take jokes a little too far, I bought a dixie air horn from JC Whitney for $60 - the kind that was on General Lee. I always thought it would be funny to hear one coming from a little Mazda, and not some big ass truck / GTO with a confederate flag and gun rack.

Anyways, I'm planning to install it next weekend. Typically, people have installed the horns facing down (to keep water out) on the front bumber in front of the radiator, but I'm not sure that there's room on a Protege. If I can't find room in the engine compartment, which is a likely scenario, I'll put the horns in the trunk. I can't wait. :D :D :D :D

That's a great idea. I rarely use my horn cause i'm embarrased of it. :D

im using fiamm dual airhorns on my other car. if i keep the pro5
longer than one year, i might install one on it. :)

I installed Fiamm dual air horns. Had them in for over a year. Sounds much better.

I have the FIAMM dual airs too and plan to put them on my P5 when I get it. Perfect for those tractor trailers that decide they want to cut in front of you.

Airs - the only way to go. Love mine.

Finding a mounting location was a little difficult for me (stock intake takes up a lot of room in the engine bay), but I found this to be a very nice, tidy location:

And my compressor is here, near the passenger headlamp:

I couldn't stand the original horn either, and this one one of my first mods almost 2 years ago.

yeah the horn is a little wimpy. How often do you guys really use your horns though, i can't even remember the last time I used mine.

Im thinking of adding in one of thouse novelty horns that plays la cocaracha or something fun like that.

BaLa August-10th-2003 08:08 PM

I'm going to have to drop by a junkyard and see if I can't find something...maybe mod my car..

i just installed a set of electric high/low fiamms on my truck. they are very loud. they were only $15.

Dude - I drive in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, etc, almost every day.

I'm surprised I haven't burned out the compressor yet...
