Passenger Door Lock Button on P5
 

Does anyone else miss the fact that there is no lock button on the passenger side, or is it just me? I can't really see where to put one, but I'm thinking about just dropping in a single button with a relay to either lock or unlock depending on current position.

Any thoughts?

haha, yeah, I'm tired of hearing "Can you lock us in".... I don't mind the backlighting, but I think if I can find a button, I'll take it to a stereo shop have them put it in and then run the wiring myself.

yes, its annoying as hell....ESPECIALLY since our doors do NOT auto lock at a predetermined speed like a lot of cars do.....My wife is always telling me to lock the doors as we leave from somewhere.....she HATES the fact that there is only a lock switch on the drivers door.

Are we really at the point as a society where the effort to manually lock a car door is too much trouble and worthy of a complaint?:rolleyes:
In our economy cars we already travel in greater comfort and luxury then the greatest and richest kings of even 100 years ago, let alone the rest of human history.

I HATE that also! My previous car ('95 Grand AM"Piece of Shit") automatically locked the doors after you put the car in gear. I was so use to this happening, that I STILL forget to lock my doors in my P5! If ANYONE has a solution to this (besides locking them manually), please post it here. :D

you can get an autolock/unlock installed with your alarm system... my compustar has it... once i hit the brake "CLICK!" everything shuts, and as soon as i pull out the key everything unlocks...

Chumpman is right, I had auto lock and unlock installed with the alarm on my previous car, 96 Nissan Pickup, and I got really used to it. I sure miss it on my P5 but I am going to have it installed with my alarm and stereo in good time.

Is this a module that certain alarms have? Could I add this to my factory alarm? I would be nice... :D

I'm not in the practice of "locking" anyone one in :D, but is the concern to locking your doors to keep "bad men" out or, in the case of an accident, keep the doors from flying open? I can understand the first reason (although car-jacking is quite rare in Canada) when driving in the city, but I believe that the lock does not offer any extra safety in a car crash. If anything, it may slow-down a rescue.

Obviously we have more luxury, and obviously its not that big of deal, but most cars have a button on both sides if they have power locks, every other car I've ever had has. Plus if you use the remote to unlock both doors, your actually unlocking all of them, so manually locking the door isn't going to help. Its my fiance's car, but I drive when I'm in it and its her safety concern (people getting in the car) so she's the one that thinks of it, but has no switch, so I end up having to do it. Is it a big deal, of course not, but its a minor inconvienence that I don't mind spending the time to resolve.

The alarm is a good idea, my last car didn't let the auto lock work because there was a relay to prevent it if the key was in the car. Does this car not have that problem? My car (because of the alarm) before that did the locks at time of engine start and stop, that was ideal.

I thought it was odd that the car didn't have it. But it doesn't bother me at all. I don't even use the lock button on the drivers side. But I also don't lock my doors when I am driving. If you get in a crash and are hurt nobody will be able to open your door to help you.

damn...I wish you had ask this yesterday....I had my doors off....maybe THE MAN can help.....
