Is this a P5 thing??

This weekend i passed 3 different P5's and everytime i saw them, they flashed their hazards at me, and i flashed back. Is this a common thing amongst P5 owners?

I think it's more of a 'recognize and represent' kinda thing..

When enthusiasts of whatever vehicle see another person drivin the same ride you get that kinda thing.

Do you flash back?

When i had my 2k1 civic i didn't get that much recognition as much as i do now with the P5. In fact, i didn't get any flashes from other 7th gen civics.

And yes, i flash back:cool:

Oh, and that could be just cuz there's SOOOO many civics out there versus the smaller # of P5s (for now). If you run into a P5 with an owner in the same age demographic as you then you're both more likely to be enthusiasts and hence flash each other. When you have a million civics out there, you're gonna have drivers of all mentalities so the whole flashing thing may or may not work...

Only takes one guy to start and the trend passes like wildfire from car to car...

So to get this straight, it's the emergency lights that they flash??? not high beams?
I think I'll start doing the same....

Yup - hazards.

People usually flash their brights to warn u that there's a speed trap ahead.

a flash of the lights, a honk of the horn, a wave, a thumbs up, anything. I have been use to this for many many years, I ride motorcycles as well....and I don't care where you go, bikers will wave to one another.....its like an extended family of sorts. And I find the same true with P-5 and Mp3 owners....AND tuned Proteges in general. I have even had owners of OTHER tuned cars (non-mazdas) show that recognition. Not necessarily because they liked my car.....but because by looking at my car they could tell I was an enthusiest/modder/tuner whatever you want to call it....and so were they. Just like the thing with bikers, its like having an extended family that have like interests.

:{D just about no matter where you go....you can find some of us, some one to talk to, someone to share a drink with, someone to have a good time with just sitting around shooting the bull.

there was another thread about this recently, the protege friendliness thread. i posted there about never receiving this. :( maybe i'm the disfuctional uncle of the family that no one likes to talk about. last night though, me and my friend drew (owns a 2002 dx) were at the local spot for those wonderful not so legal going really fast activities, and this guy walks up and starts tellin us about how he's from puerto rico and apparently, protege's are the thing to hook up down there. :]

I always flash (my lights, that is :booty: ) at other P5 owners. I actually have yet to pass an MP3, but I'd do the same.

Not only is this a Protege thing, it extends to other cars as well - when I owned a Miata, it was like I knew every other Miata driver on the road - always a wave, thumbs up, honk, flash, even the occasional engine rev and brisk game of "catch me if you can" on a windy road or tight off-ramp.

I used to get it from older Camaro owners when I had my '79 too, but not as much as the Miata.

Definitely a fun, community-feeling thing to do.

BTW, I usually flash the brights at other P5 owners (especially since I had my windows tinted - I don't think they can see the thumbs-up anymore - unless it's out the sunroof, which happens here and there) - I figure they'll know it's for the car, not for cops ahead.
