dont know who lied to that guy but maybe in hp friendly japan the familia gets NEAR 140 hp but not in the U.S.

and just becuz they make a tow kit for a specific car, doesnt mean its a good idea to tow anything with that car.

FS-DE's (North American 01+ ES/P5) have 130hp and 135lb/ft of torque...The parts in question are not the engine and its ability to pull shit around, it is the rear sections of the frame...Which were NOT designed to handle the weight of a half ton trailer, this is why the manual says not to do it...With a light trailer and smaller stuff, you probably will be fine but don't expect your dealer to give half of a shit if you pull your car apart...

Also pay close attention to your brakes, treat a heavy trailer load like you would a P5 packed full of people...don't expect to stop in a short distance especially while going down hill...

It was just a thought. My 9-5 wagoon can pull 1000lbs, so I would attempt something at 500lbs, IF a trailer were made that small. I'm not stupid about auto physics. I know about safety factors though... and how much to push stupidity.

My main choice WAS the new Chevy Colorado in crewcab form with the straight 5 motor, BUT the penis heads at GM marketing decided ONLY the regular cab and extended cab folks deserved a stickshift choice... that crewcab folks are tired old geezers that can't drive a stick. WTF??

Hah! You want to see something to laugh at, you should have seen my P5 loaded for vacation plus the trailer loaded with four bikes and a canoe on top, oh yeah it's a 17ft canoe so the trailer's about 20ft long. Don't fret though it's all pretty lightweight, I'd say less than 600lbs total. I've done Atl-to-gulf coast Fla a couple of times with no probs. Cruisin at 70-80 the whole way. I've pulled boats and other stuff alot (not on the P5), though and I baby it on the take-offs and stops.

there should be an insurance discount for buying a stick. it keeps you from being a bumbling idiot to some degree and you cant chomp on chow mein while chatting on the phone while driving a stick in traffic :D

My manual says that I can pull a trailer (trailer with no brakes) max 400kg, thats ~800lbs?? And my car is -99 1.8L. I've pulled ~250kg with no problems.

i got a u-haul hitch...and regularly tow a 16 ft. boat at 70+mph......no big deal. I was told by u-haul no more than 1000lbs.
