P5 Prob

Well i'm going to be taking my P5 to the dealer soon because about 1/3 of the time I cannot shift into reverse. Ughh it pisses me off. When it happens I have to pull up alittle bit then shift into reverse. And when it ends up going in it makes a 'klank' sound. =[

My wife has this problem on her '93 Protege, although my
'93 Protege didn't. She has taken it to a couple different
dealers several times, and they both said that the transmission
was operating within specified tolerances.

Let me know if you learn something different.

I've seen this same problem on a lot of manual transmissions. My old Chevy S-10 '95 (R.I.P.) and my friends VW GTI '97 did the same think. HERE IS WHAT WORKED for us. When you feel the resistance going into reverse, slowly let up on the clutch and keep a little pressure pulling back into reverse, when the clutch hits a certain point it usually slides right in. HOPE that helps, it works in other cars.

my parents standard 98 POS tercel does the same thing, you put into reverce and you here the "klank" sound, as for my standard P5 haven't noticed that particular problem.
