P5 Fog Lights - PIAA 40's
 
All:

Just finished installing the PIAA 40's. They are a tad bigger (about 1/2") than the stock fog lights. I ended up replacing the the bolt that comes with the 40's with a longer one and a little washer/nut modification so I could aim the 40's a bit better. In addition, where the bottom of where the stock fog light is on the bumper towards the front I ended up cutting about 1/4" of the bumper for the brackets on the 40's for adjustability.

Results - for a driving light and Nokya artic white bulbs - HOLY SHIT! They are bright.

Well worth the mod and about 4 hours of time. If I had to do it over again, it would take about an hour with the knowledge that I have now.

Cool,

So you where able to use the stock brackets?? I can't wait
to see pictures of it. And yah they are really really bright.
I can't drive without them on. Its almost like you can see the
road when I don't have them on. Just make sure you aim them
with lowered cars in mind. I didn't do that and most people that
I was behind kept flipping me off. But if there aren't a lot of
those around you then higher is better for visibility.

Hey!

Yeah, I utilized the stock brackets. Basically it's just like stock but you take out the bolt and replace with a longer one in a methodology like this:

BOLT HEAD, 14 DISC WASHERS, NUT, WASHER, PLACE IN BRACKET ASSEMBLY, WASHER, NUT.

That's it!

The washers on the bolt with a nut basically allows for the fog to stick out "a little bit" for easier aiming. You could reduce the nuts by 3-4 and it would exactly like stock but it would be a pain to aim.

Great install info....however

I just installed the piaa 40 driving lights in about 1.5 hours using nothing more than the mounting bracket on the stock fog lamps.

Basically, just take them off the old fog lights, bend them together with a pair of channel locks, drill the holes in the new lights bigger, and bolt together.

By using the original bracket you save the hassel of trying to put a bunch of washers in here and there.

P.S. To hook them up, just cut the wire on the back of the old lights, cut the connector of the new lights, and put red to white/red and black to black. Then plug in the cars original connector. No need to use piaa's connector when you can use your own.

Again, 1.5 hours start to finish.

Also,

No need to cut your bumper for the brakets to fit....just aim the light as high as possible prior to placing it into the bumper and it will slide in.

Once in, adjust the light down some so you are not shooting light in the air...then tighten....DO NOT CUT YOUR BUMPER!!!
