p5 dash removal

does anyone know where i can get detailed instructions on how to remove the dash on a 2002 p5

DaveB February-17th-2003 02:56 PM

What are we talking about here. The whole dash or just the gauge cluster area?

mp5driver February-17th-2003 03:09 PM

the entire dash. i have been getting a lot of rattles under my dash so i want to remove it in order to tape everything down that looks like it my be what is causing the rattles

DaveB February-17th-2003 04:08 PM

Wish I could help, but I have only taken apart the gauge cluster area. But I'm sure someone on this board has. Let hear it. And lets be helpful and not get alot of (buy the book) replies.

yeah i would but as soon as the dealer sees my eibach springs his going to put the blame on them and tell me that i voided my warranty or some bull**** like they always do.

I dont think rattles are covered under warranty. Its a YMMV kind of thing and also a "wear and tear" problem.

I know that the link above has been discussed before. Is there anyway to prevent the link from showing up in future posts? It defeats the purpose to be a member of Mazdaspeed Motorsports to get such information.

I guess I'm just venting.

I had the same problem with rattles and I got my buddy who used to be a mechanic to take it out for me. All he did was unplug the battery and simply take out the screws holding the dash in. He took the entire dash out and he taped the top part which had not been properly glued by Mazda.

Now I don't know what kind of noises you are getting, but to answer the eternal "why don't you take it to the dealer, it's under warranty" question, well because you cannot friggin reproduce it for him. Even when you can reproduce it for the mechanic, he makes you leave the car with him and calls you back and says he can no longer reproduce the sound. This is the problem with warranty, it should be them the mechanics who worry about reproducing stuff not you the paying customer. I hate most mechanics.

1. You have to deal with the service department at THEIR convienance: i.e. serv. dept. hours which tend be the hours when you need to be driving your car!

2. The claims of wear and tear ARE VERY VALID! The dealer/service department won't think twice about working on something FIRST and then telling you later that it wasn't covered under warranty so you must then pay for the repairs (at VERY INFLATED hourly rates).

3. Depending on the number of vehicles ahead of you it may be days before you get your vehicle back. It isn't really convienant to not have a car and a way to get to school/work/daycare for the next few days...and sharing cars with a spouse doesn't work unless your work schedules are completely opposite or one isn't employed!

Thats the #1 reason why I hate to bring my car to the dealership. I try to stay away from the dealership unless its something I cant fix. ;)

if you still wanna know how to take the dash off i have the entire P5 service manual on my comp, its got detailed instructions on everything, i just recently used it to fix my ventilation control system switches and i don't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to mechanics so if i can do it i'm sure you can...email me dpask@mts.net and i'll email you the pdf for that section.

00BLUNT i emailed you but i never recieved a reply. If you have the chance i would appreciate it very much if you sent me the instructions

i'm with edwin on this one. of course i'm speaking from the awesome exp i get from my mazda dealer, who seems to take pride in exceptional cs (always calling to see if i had a good exp with them blah blah blah)

as far as i know, nearly everything is covered under the warranty. ur eibachs shouldn't make a difference as it is not engine related (to void ur warranty) if u guys have sucky mazda dealers, u could always email the company directly and voice complaints.

the dealer and service dept here are pretty cool, and even with aftermarket parts, they don't give a sh!t. they diagnose my problems quickly and try to get my car back to me asap. the only inconvenience would be not having a car for a certain period of time. but these guys have loaners and shuttle service if i need to do anything, so i always consider my dealer first b4 doing things myself.

00blunt - fellow pegger...I'd like instructions on how to remove the bottom part of the console. The area around the shifter/cubby hole/drink holders.

e-mail addy is in my profile.

thx.
