P5 Alarm Set Question

I'm a newbie P5 owner. Just bought my new Silver '03 this weekend. I hate the horn sounding when I set the alarm, it's too loud. The dealership told me there's no way to turn that off. Are they telling me that just because I'm a chic, and don't want to mess with it? or is there a way to turn the horn off when setting the alarm? Anybody know?

first of all, hello.
second, i wouldn't have a clue as to dis-arm the horn "chirp" as i have a 2002 p5...
BUT, i'm sure someone will be along shortly to help ya!

:)

Thanks! And hello to you too.

Hey Siren! Like Islandman said, 'welcome'. Sir Nuke will be along shortly. I have a factory alarm also, and I don't understand something, when I set my alarm, the hazards flash not the horn chirping. Is yours a different alarm?

Maybe he talking about the "keyless entry" and not the alarm. If you hit the lock button twice it'll sound your car horn.

hello silver and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

if you do in fact have the factory alarm...the dealer is telling you the truth....the factory alarm has little or no feature adjustments other than being able to adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensor.

the alarm locks on the first hit and the second is just to tell you its already locked so dont press it again or it will beep every time till you stop :D

i think i know waht you mean .. my p5's alarm is SO sensitive .. if a car drives by that is even remotely loud the alarm will go off .. if someone taps it itll go off .. its really starting to be a nuisance. what i do now though is i lock it from the inside with the lock button so the alarm isnt on. that kinda bypasses the alarm being there .. but oh well.

thanks for everyone's replies! i guess i didn't understand that i am actually turning the alarm on by hitting the "lock" button just once. It is the horn chirp/beep thing that annoys me, so maybe I'll just stop hitting the lock button twice!
Everyone have a great weekend!

My tech said the latest made P5's (just from factory) have a way for dealers to turn-off the alarm honk, by pressing the lock button once, then unlock five times, then lock two times. Don't know if yours is new enough for that to work, tho.

SilverSiren September-12th-2003 07:56 AM

hmmmm, guess i could try that, THANKS! My car is 2003, but don't know when it was actually in production.

Sir Nuke September-12th-2003 10:37 AM

digitalricepage, you CAN turn the sensitivity down so your alarm won't go off every time a loud car or truck goes by your car of the gentle tap from someone walking by your car. Up under your dash just outboard of the stearing column you will find a small box about half the size of a cigerette pack that has wires going into and out of it....there is a small knob sticking out of one corner of the box....this is the cars shock sensor and the knob adjusts sensitivity. just turn it down till you get it where you want it. I have found that MOST of the pros that come with the factory alarm were set at the MOST sensitive setting. when I got mine even thunder would set it off.

NOW another thing for the rest of you, just some information....

the SECOND PUSH/HORN BEEP thing with your keyless entry remote.

all keyless entry remotes do this even if you do not have the alarm. the reason why? well what it is in reality is a VERIFICATION that all your doors are in fact shut and latched properly. YES, the first push of the button locks the doors and arms the alarm (if you have it) and the second push of the button within 5 seconds will have the system do a check if all the doors (and hatch for a P5) are in fact fully closed and latched. IF they are the lights flash and the horn beeps...if ONE is not fully closed/latched, NO horn, NO lights flash.

Very helpful info! THANKS!

Mine's like 1 two touch method, 1 to lock 2 to "remind you" you already locked it :)
