Over filling oil!

Oil level question? I usually do my own oil changes but I got a shop to do it and they put 3.6L of oil (On paper). I usually put 3 L in. After car is sitting for a couple hours, I measured oil level and it was 1/2 inch higher then highest level marking on the dipsitck. Will this cause a problem? I have the 1.6L 01! I could just drain some out, but was wondering if this will cause any problems. I change oil every 8000kms as recommended by dealer.

go ahead and drain some off . Check your level after of course ,I bet if you draw off a liter the dipstick will be on the top mark . Sound like they put in 4 liters

Drain some...and then turn the engine over and let it run for a minute to get the oil filter saturated. It will use up some of the left over oil.

You never ever want to over fill motor oil. Unless you know that your car eats it like a Hoover, then you want to overfill just a bit, and then keep on adding. Too much oil will cause certian components in the valvehead to not work properly, and also cause oil to leak into the combustion area of the piston. It smells bad, and ruins your engine.

If you've got too much oil, but that usually has to be a couple litres too much, you'll aerate the oil (the crankshaft actually dips into the oil in the pan) this will cause your oil to be beaten into foam and it will cause the oil pump to cavitate, which isn't good.
