Oil questions??

Its about time for my first oil change so I was just wondering what oil weight and the amout of quarts that the protege 5 takes. Any suggestions on brand would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well since some of us aren't so nice, I'll be the one to tell you.

The manual states if no oil filter change then 3.5 qts, if you change the oil filter then it says 3.75 qts.

your welcome and feel free to ask any questions you need too.

5w-30 is what you want for your new engine

As the man stated above, read the manual. It answer this question.

10W-30 is the standard, 3.5 quarts and change the filter with your oil change.

Done

uh according to ours, 5w20 is standard, personally I'd try to go with 5w30 but generally its a matter of taste. we've been sticking with the 20w simply because it's OEM. I've been told pluses and minuses about it but for the moment I'll stick with it.

At least he didn't say "read the faq" ;)

Seriously, do you people throw out the owners manual the second you drive off the lot or what? It's not like a VCR or something ... there is useful information in there.

But it is true, you'd be surprised how much you learn about your car when you read the manual.

Yea, but where do you find a decent quality 5w-20 from?

That is excatly why I use Mobil1 5w-30. It is thin enough to flow year round in my cooler climate plus it is a quality lubricant.
