Oil filter part # Motmaster ect...

I noticed when I changed my oil that the last garage put a Penzoil Oil filter that was twice the capacity as my stock filter. But since I can't find Penzoil oil fliters in stores!! Does anybody know the part # for those longer oil filters on used on the 1.6l 01 PRO! I have always used the 6607 but I have seen a fliter like a 7413 or 7314 that looks like it would fit nicely! Anybody know the part #? Does Masda think this is a good idea? Larger filter/? I know i'll need more oil! but...

The Protege's have been using the same filter for about a decade now, the 6607 (I think) and I used to change it for a... I can't think of it right now, and I haven't changed the oil on my P5 yet... so I haven't looked into it.

I will post as soon as I remember, or find an old bill...

use any late model 6 cyclinder mazda motor filter. I don't know if the duratech motor is the same so use pre 2002 6 cyclinder mazda motors.

Canadian Tire's Motomaster oil filters and Pennzoil oil filters are actually relabelled Frams.

Many people on this board are of the opinion that Fram filters are of questionable quality. Go check these links out yourself, and draw your own conclusions:

I believe other rebranded Frams are:

- Petro-Canada
- current Quaker State

There might be others. I personally prefer to stick to either Mazda filters, or in aftermarket, AC Delco and Purolator. The oil change places I use supply Kralinator, but I can't find anything on those filters.

I have a 93 and a 97 Protege. I've been using the FRAM 7317 which is for V6 Mazdas. The original is a PH6607 (FRAM) which is very small. The taller 7317 fits with no clearance problems. I don't know how the engine bay is configured on the newer models but it should fit the same if Mazda is still employing this size filter for all I-4 cars. I've been using the V6 filters for over 5 years. No problems to date.
