oil change time??
 

i now have 25,000 miles on my p5 and was wondering which grade of oil i should use now??? or should i just stick with the 10w30.

you can go with synthetic if you feel you need to. But I'd stick to that weight oil.

the manual recommends 5w30 or 10w30 if you which to mobil one synthedic, they have a new engine formula in the 5w30. use that until 75k then switch to the 10w30 older engine formula. but thats only if you use mobil 1 synthedic

The "new engine" and "higher mileage engine" formula is just marketing BS. They're exactly the same thing, just different grades. If you decide to use Mobil 1, use whatever grade the manual recommends for your climate.

I definitely agree. I have been using 10W-30 "Higher Mileage" formula and no problems.

I guess it does make a little sense where they got the names...because the 5W-30 would be best at first for lubrication, but as the parts wear they would require a heavier oil to do the same job. Right?

How often should one do oil changes if using mobil 1 synthetic? thanks

i change mine every 6k. there have been alot of test done that show you can take a reg oil change to 7 or 8 k and a synthedic to 10+, but its still recommended to do every 3k.

Oil changes are the most important thing to keep the engine's longevity, and avoid wear and tear problems.

No matter what type of oil you use, synthetic or not, chane it before 5000! It you are going to spend the extra money, don't use synthetic, get a good oil filter. Alot of guys say synthetic, super racing bla bla bla, and get a half decent filter. Use what oil (10W, 5W whatever,) the dealership recomends, call them and ask service, and get a good name brand oil filter.

I worked at a Saturn SAAB dealership when I was in college, and that is what the mechanics keeps drilling into me.

ask the dealership what the best filter is, thats funny.
there was a article around here somewhere that did alot of testing of the different filters. alot of people say the cheap walmart filter is alot better and cheaper than fram. iu recommend the 11 dollar mobil 1 filter as well

Ask the dealership about the OIL Grade, and get a good name brand filer I believe is what I said.

I talked to two machine/performance shops and they both recomended either 0w-30 or 5w-30. Neither recomended 10w-30. They said that is almost to thick for my engine. A friend of mine has been running 5w-30 for years in his honda and says it's overall prefomance is better than 10w-30. But You can run 90w if you want it's your car. I run 0w-30. Anywho, this is another technical peice of advice that no one with a degree in is responding to! LOL

they are going to say OEM filter is the best

ASK THE DEALERSHIP WHAT 'OIL' THEY RECOMEND.

AND GET A NAME BRAND 'FILTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

i just got of the phone with my dealer and he said use quakerstate oil and he couldn't recommend any filter other than the oem.(another reason i don't like my dealer)

OK it's really easy...ask a dealership what oil they recomend, not the BRAND, the type of oil. Ask Mazda, Honda, Mitsubishi, Ford, and ask them why.

What 'type' of oil, (10W-30, 50W-90, FNW-69,) is important due to engine type, life, air temp and humidity and junk for your area.

Don't even bother asking them about the filter. Duh, of course there gonna say 'use our filter.'
