Normal Or Not! (few Questions)

HI! AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
AND NOW TO THE POINT.

FIRST I HAVE A PROTEGE ES 02 STOCK (AUTO). IT HAS 550 MILES (IT'S JUST A LITTLE BABY) BUT I HAVE A FEW CONCERNS.

1- IS IT NORMAL FOR THE FAN TO TURN ON AND OFF CONTINOUSLY, WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ON??? I THOUGHT IT WENT ON AND STAYED ON.

2- I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE THREADS ON THAT ENGINE KNOKING SOUND WHEN THE CAR IS COLD, MINE DOES DO IT IN THE MORNINGS WHEN IT'S COLD BUT WHEN THE CAR WARMS-UP IT GOES AWAY COMPLETELY. HAS THERE BEEN ANY NEWS ABOUT HOW TO FIX THIS? AND ( MAYBE I'M WRONG) BUT THE CAR COMES FROM THE FACTORY WITH 10-30W OIL, IF I CHANGE IT TO 30W WILL THAT SOLVE THE PROBLEM? (IT'LL HAVE THICK OIL ALL THE TIME NOT JUST WHEN IT'S WARM.

AND LAST

3- I'M HEARING A CRAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE SUN ROOF ONCE IN A WHILE HAS ANYONE FOND OUT WHAT IT IS ???

OTHER WISE, THIS IS MY FIRTS PROTEGE AND I REALLY LIKE THE CAR.( HONESTY IT TOOK ME A LITTLE WHILE TO GET USED TO THE SUSPENSION, BUT NOW I LIKE IT MORE THAN THE ONE I HAD)

SORRY IF THIS IS TOO LONG BUT, I HAVE BEEN VISITING THIS SITE FOR A WHILE ( EVEN BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR, "REASERCH") AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE A FEW PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT KNOUW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT.

First, let me make you aware that when you type in ALL CAPS online, it signifies YELLING. Try turning off that caps lock buddy.

Question #1: The fan turns on an off as it is needed. The computer in the car controls it, and may even turn it on when the ignition is off. Ahh, the modern marvels of computer controlled cars.

Question #2: I have not noticed this rattle since I put AMSoil in @ my first oil change. Maybe it has something to do with viscosity, I don't know. All I know is, my engine runs smoother with it. Then again, I could be wayyy off on this one. There is another thread on this knocking phenomenon which suggests an ECU or timing problem.

Question #3: Can't help you here, don't have the moonroof.

I hope I was of some help to you, welcome to the board.

Not sure if you're talking about the cold "Rattle" or a "Knock". THere's been lots of discussion about the Rattle, and no documented fixes yet (I think).

As for the moonroof, take it into the dealer - that's what warranty is for. (I don't hear any unusual noises with mine).

the rattle is part of the variable timing system used to make the P5 meet ULEV requirements. When the engine first starts up, it is very inefficient, so the system varies the timing to reduce emissions. In the process, it makes it run like crap, thus causing the rattle.

If you remove the vacuum hose to the solenoid that controls the VTS, the rattle will go away. I have done this and haven't had the rattle since. It doesn't affect the car in any other way; i.e. no ill effects from doing this.
