Noise when turn the steering to the most right.

I bought my P5 last November.
I have notice some high pitch noise (not very loud) come out under the hood when I turn my steering to the most right side moving into my parking lot.

Anyone have the same problem?

My 1994 Corolla does the same thing during winter early morning before the car is warmed, but my Corolla is almost 10 years old and has 120K on it.

not sure, but it could be power steering. Check your fluid level.

i get the same noise...but all the time whenever I turn the wheel. My PS fluid level is still perfect. Im thinkin the belt is gettin loose or the pump is on it's way out. Only time will tell.

I have made an appointment with my dealer tomorrow. Hope they will be able to fine out what is wrong about it.
I might ask them to fix that cold engine rattle as well.

It's a noise I've noticed on every power-steered car. You think the Protege makes noise? My dad's 1988 Cadillac makes a loud noise similar to the whine a manual transmission emits when backing up in reverse.

well mine isn't a whine as much as it sounds like a belt about to fall off. But it only happens when the wheel is being turned and a load is put behind it. I'll have to have a friend play with it so i can stick my head in there andlisten for it.

You guys know that holding the steering wheel at it's limit left or right is bad for the power steering system, right? I think Mazda recommends only holding it there for less than 5 seconds and almost all power steering pumps make noise when they are pushed to the limits.

never heard any noise out of mine at full turn, 4 years running

Take it to the dealer since it's still under warranty.

Farsyde July-18th-2003 09:33 AM

see that's my problem. My car is out of warrantee. It will be 4 years old in a month and the warrantee is only for 3/50,000. So if I take it into them they will charge me $70/hr and prolly end up breaking something else. Since a new belt only runs like 20 bux max i'll give it a shot first since I can't make it worse myself.
