Noise at 120 km/h on P5 and LX 2002

Since I got my P5 2002 auto Canadian edition (August 2002), I have a problem of noise when I reach 120 km/h.

It is a sound around 10 kHz (a buzz...) where the frequency increases with the speed. I lost the sound around 145 km/h because the frequency becomes too high. The noise stops when I remove my foot from the accelerator pedal.

My dealer has replaced the alternator, some bearing of "cardan" (I don't know the word in English..), the venturi nozzle (?) and the transmission this week without result.

We tried another P5 auto, same touble. We also tried a LX et P5 standard, same thing. Finally, we tried a P5 auto 2003 and we got no noise! Wow!

Mazda Canada is aware of the situation, did you have the same problem with your Protegé? Do you have an idea of the cause of that noise? Thanx!

Yep! I have that same noise too! I'm afraid I don't know what the cause of it is. I figure it has to to with the transmission and/or throttle body.

You said that Mazda is aware of it? Is there a repair record or re-call for the noise?

I know I'm getting the same vibration sound as well coming from what sounds like the exhaust or muffler underneath the rear of the car.

At first I thought it was a cold engine start, and had something to do with the engine, but now it seems like the noise moved to the back of the car!! (i drive a ES 2002 w/3000mi)

I'm bringing it in for service at the mazda dealer so I'll also check it out to see if there is some sort of universal problem with the design of the protege... I think this is rediculous. So lets all compare notes at the end of the day and see what they say. I live in up here in Minnesota, so it gets pretty cold.
