New to protege club with a question
 

whats up everyone,
2 weeks ago i just bought my first new car. It's a 2001 protege es with a manual trans. The first mod i was going to do was install a sound system, but i changed my mind. i want to replace the stock intake and exhaust but im not sure if this will void my warranty. does anyone know what happens if i make these changes as far as my warranty goes? do i need a certified shop to make the changes for me?

I asked that same question when I wanted to mod my 2000 DX. Well, I called the dealership I bought it from and they told me that yes, it does void the warranty. I got scared about that, because I had already put my exhaust on. So I called Mazda themselves, and a very nice woman named Heather explained it to me that no, some modifications do not void your warranty. The only way exhaust and intake would void it, is if something went wrong and only if that something was caused by the exhaust or intake. However, if for some reason you had to take your car into Mazda cuz it wouldn't start or you were getting a check engine light... I would take the intake off atleast and put the stock one back on. That's what I did when my INJEN intake kept blowing MAF sensors, and the dealership just thought it was bad sensors and replaced them under warranty. Anyway, that was long and more drawn out than it probably needed to be, but hopefully helps.

Don't bother calling the dealership. The warranty is not provided by them. You'll get different information from each dealer you call. If you want to know something specific, call Mazda North America and find out from the source of the warranty. Dealers aren't very reliable IMHO.
