New member with a few questions.
First of all, I'll introduce myself...
My name is Paul, and I'm a college student in the Green Bay area of Wisconsin. I currently drive a '95 Pearl White Nissan Maxima SE 5spd, but I'm looking into getting a 99/00 Protege ES/LX 1.8. I detail cars part-time in the warmer months - hence my screen name. :) Here are my questions: 1. On my Maxima, there is a way to check the CEL with a screwdriver. You can just turn a little screw on the ECU, and the MIL will blink the code. Does the Protege have a way of checking the CEL codes myself? 2. How difficult is the fuel filter to replace? I know that it is under the back seat, near (or inside?) the fuel pump. How long does it take? 3. What kind of tires are good on the Protege? I live in a snowy climate, so I plan to get snow tires (Michelin X-Ice) for the stock wheels, and BFGoodrich G-Force Sports for another set of wheels - either the Miata 16s or the Protege 15s. 4. And on a related note to the last question, where can I buy the Miata 16s and how much do they cost? Would Ebay be the best place to look? Thanks for your help. |
sometimes we've got some wheel for sale on the classifieds in this sight.. you should check them out
and WELCOME to protege club! |
welcome, the only way to check codes on that new of a car is to get a code tester i belive. Personally i have an 02 LX and mine is OBD 2 which requires a code reader to plug into the dignostic port but im not 100% sure on a 99 to 00. Just have to wait for someone with that year to read this.

Welcome--good choice.
One of the tuner gurus can probably answer answer your questions in more detail but I'll tell you what I can... 1--No. Auto Zone will pull the codes for free, though, and there may be others. 2--The fuel filter is in the tank, but from what I understand it's just a plastic screen and should not need replacing. 3--There are a lot of good choices. I've been running Dunlop Graspics all winter and I've been happy with them so far! 4--You can always check the F/S items but you might be better off finding them on E-bay or checking out the Miata forums. |
