I've been driving a 2008 MX5 for the past 8 years and am thinking of switching to something roomier (almost anything is DUH). I want a hatchback and will check out the new Mazda 3 5 door, but I've been noticing an older Mazda 3 parked near my house and I think the body style is much better than the new ones. Googling has made me believe this 3 is a 2004-2008. It might be worth buying an older one, fixing it up including maybe a new engine. I'm including some photos of the one near me and maybe you can identify it for me.

I was wondering if i can fit a 2jz jdm motor in my 2001 mazda protege 5 speed 1.6 liter or a 300zx motor and what would i need to run the car,my car has 130,000 miles on it but i dont wanna put a turbo or super charger cause i know the engine will pop.any idea's
