New to the Mazda Scene, Need Advice?

Hey Whats up Guys? I'm Am having trouble deciding whether or not to buy a MP3 or MP5? My initial plan was to buy a WRX but came short of the funds. I am an owner of a fixed up Integra. How much Horsepower can I squeeze out of the Mp3 2.0L? I have been doing research and found the same limited stuff of Engine modifications. What else can you do to an MP3? any Turbos or Superchargers out there? How bout Coil over springs? Need some help. I'm new to the Mazda Scene. How about any Wide body kits? Sorry for asking so many questions. its been building up inside. Thanks

Oh Could anyone list links to pages and sites to
Performance parts etc.. etc..

What colors Do the Mp3 come in?

The MP3 only came in Blue or Yellow but good luck find one now they are all but sold so I hear(limited run of 1500). Ground Control does make coils overs and H&r, Eibach, Intrax, and B&G my lowering springs. There are a few exhaust options out there the Bosal exhaust9www.bosal.com) and the newlly discovered Ziel Exhaust (www.zielmotorsports.com) there is one widebody kit coming out via wings west (www.wingswest.com) as far as intakes AEM and Injen both have one available along with a coming more I can't remember. As far as turbos and superchargers...Jackson racing is compemplating making a kit and there are rumors of a couple companys making turbo kits but no telling when they will be out...I am making a turbo kit myself and it shoudl be on the market in a couple months. No computer upgrades though....if you are looking for balls out speed you won't find it in the protege JUST YET! If you want speed them just slap a plate nitrous injection on you integra and wave goodbye to most anyone in your way.

Cool.. Thanks. How much horsepower would you be able to squeeze out of the 2.0 just from Bolt ons? Estimated? Are there Cams and Throttlebodies available yet? Thanks.

Only bolt in cams available are the J-spec cams from Corksport. But you can send your stock cams to crower for a regrind for 135 per cam and that will give you better gains than the J-Spec. No throttle-bodies yet though. With all the cams exhaust intake and all you might be able to pump another 20 HP out of the Pro but I'm not sure of exact numbers. My turbo kit will produce between 150-170 HP at the wheel with 5-7 PSI.

My friend just bought his P5. And he said that at one dealer they had around 4 MP3s. I hope I could find one 4 or 5 months from now.

Hey if you can still find an MP3 I'd say snap it up as quick as possible!
Here in Canada each dealer was allowed 2 cars and most were sold before they even hit the lot. Oh and we could only get blue here.
These cars demand a fairly high premium here even as a used vehical. I've heard that some have been resold for 2-3 grand more than the original buyer payed.

I would be really careful about doing that. Most modern Jap cams are heat treated to harden them after they're machined. If you re-machine a heat-treated cam without heat-treating it again after you're done, it will wear out more quickly than a stock cam- sometimes MUCH more quickly, like a matter of weeks :(

Plus, keep in mind that all U.S. and Canadian G3 Proteges have a 6800 rpm rev limiter in the stock computer. You may need more revs than this to fully exploit the potential gains from a hotter cam. If you don't raise the limiter, the car may not be able to stay in the powerband when you shift, or you may move the power peak so high that it's unusable. Raising the limiter requires an aftermarket computer, which is not exactly a "bolt-on" :)

The nice thing about the J-spec FS-ZE cam (also available from Mazda Motorsports BTW) is that it's still mild enough that the power should be usable on the street with the stock computer.

FWIW,
