Hey all..Just got a 2002 Protege5 in the dark blue. I came from a Subaru 1998 RS, and a Forester XT. Always love the Subaru's but the Prot5 caught my attention, and to be out of debt and still have a fun car I figured why not.
Sold the XT, bought the Protege5, and with the extra cash bought a sport bike...lol. :cookoo: This is a fun car to drive. Handles well, but lacks some power. I am not to well versed in these things, but I look forward to learning. If you all have any subie questions feel free to ask...lol..been a rally and Subaru nut since 1995. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ly/Bluesky.jpg Attachment 10599 Joe |
Welcome. We can help you get some more juice out of the ol' girl.
Ok, Subaru guru. What kind of tires are OEM stock on the WRX STI? Just curious. |
USD = 225/45 Bridgestone Potenzas in 17x8
JDM = I believe they are the same except 235 option available when you get he Spec C...:) Joe |

Pick up a mid to early 90's wagon....or a mid 90's L series Impreza. Beat on it all you want....it will take it...lol..
Thanks for the Ideas on mods...is there a Protege tuner you can recommend? Well a place where I can buy all that stuff that is specific to Protege's? I am thinking going suspension, wheels, and brakes first...then next summer go with the SC kit that I was reading about...:) Joe |

What are the rough estimates for some suspension work, brake work and around 150-165hp to the wheels. Something reliable but quick. My problem is I came from a Modified Forester XT at sea level to now living in denver at 5300ft and driving a NA car.
I know speed costs money, how fast do you want to go? can be stated, but I want something quick thats reliable, and can turn corners good. Joe |
here is what i have on my P5 , Injen intake, JDM Cams, OBX header, JDM Flywheel, Mazdaspeed exhaust and MAM Midpipe w/o cats I would say i am in the 140-150 range and it pulls pretty hard.
Injen intake $240-250 ( or $150 used) JDM cams $200-250 OBX header $215 JDm flywheel $165 Mazdaspeed Exhaust $150-200 MAM Mid Pipe no cats $159 I also would get a AWR front Motor mount $64 TWM Short Shifter $125 After that it gets a little tougher to get some ponies out of it with out F/I |
as for suspension i use the goldlines with tokicos $120 for the goldlines and $356 for the shocks. the brakes i run cross drilled and slotted rotors with hawk pads
|
How much do you think you have into the vehicle....I would like to keep it below the $4000 mark.
Thanks Joe |
If you add up what he put in his thread, you're looking at << $1500 for somewhere around an additional 25-30 ponies. ~$40/hp ain't bad at all...

BS without Dyno proof.
|
I've seen posts on other forums with OBX header, intake cam, SRI, Axleback making 126hp on the dyno (about 23-25hp over stock). The CAI vs. SRI dyno's I've seen are about 1HP difference (which may be attributed to the tolerance of the dyno...but point is it should be at least the same) so you're looking around 25hp. With an exhaust cam and cat-back added, maybe a few more horses to that, so we arrive at 25-30hp gains...

Off the topic......I like the bike :bt: I am thinking about getting a Daytona 600
On topic...You are a good man for giving up the Subie. I got a 2000 Lancer Evo and when I get into my P5 I feel like I am going so slow, but mods are slowly coming. Welcome to the club and Good luck. |
