New guy....
Hello everyone,
Iīm new to this forum (even though I have been reading the posts for the past month or so before registering in order to get a feel for things). I thought of posting this in the off-topic section, but since I was going to say a few things about my car, I thought Iīd post it here. I own a 2000 323GLX (the Latin American version of the Protege). Itīs a 1.6L with 110HP (@6000rpm) and 107lbft (@4000rpm)... or at least thatīs what the manual says. I have removed the silencer from the intake, and the second catalitic converter. It did add a little bit of power, and the engine sounds better... but I couldnīt even guess at what gain Iīm getting from those two small modifications. If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate some input. Other than that, I just want to say that I really like this forum (proof is that I decided to join). Have a nice day. :) Later, LOS |
I wish I could dyno my car... but there are no places to do it here as far as I know.
The traditional way or testing cars over here, is to drive around some of the local straight streets at night during weekdays (streets are fairly lonely late at night), and find some other guy with a car who is willing to race you (very easy to find someone else who wants to race). I did read in another thread that removing the second cat will add about 2hp... I guess with the silencer removed from the intake, that would add another hp or 2. That would make it 113 or 114hp. But I donīt know. |

That would make it 113 or 114hp. But I donīt know. Brace yourself for this. Our protege gets a whopping 70hp to the wheel and a booming 77 ft lbs of torque. Great huh? NOT This is why I'm swapping my engine. With an CAI you can get a wonderful 85hp to the wheel. In other words, our car is slow. The flywheel hp means nothing. But I do have some nice pics at the Dyno:D http://www.cardomain.com/id/redrims |
BTW, removing the silencer cap really does nothing but give you like .8890648268 hp. In other words nothing.

I used to own an old carburated Civic sedan that got 85hp to the flywheel. I feel like Iīm driving a Ferrari now compared to that other car. |

LOS, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.
make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Thanks Sir Nuke,
As far as only taking stuff from the firdge that I can legally have... I will be 30 in two weeks (ouch) :( So I think I can probably grab pretty much anything from the fridge. I still remember the good old times when people still asked to see my ID when buying beer. Unfortunately yes, but I love my car. |
