New Car When Is First Oil Change???

OK I've heard a couple different opinions on this whole subject, but I figured you guys would be the wisest. So when should that first oil change happen, I've heard 1500 miles, 5000 miles, 10000 miles, and ASAP. What do you guys think, remeber it's a Mazdaspeed Protege so the turbo plays into effect. Thanks in advance.

and guess what? your now going to get more differing OPINIONS...LOL

I left the oil that came in both of my P5's for 3000 miles and have been changing oil and filter every 3000 since.

My advice to you? look in your manual and follow the recomendations there for SEVERE or HEAVY service....that is the most conservitive route you can go...and I figure you can't go wrong that way.

Yeah the Mazdaspeed anddendum to the manual says 3000 miles, so thats what I'm going to go with and then it's Castrol Syntec Full Synthetic 10w30 for as long as I own the car.

Yep also changed mine out at 3000 miles (actually 3013:eek: ) and ever since it has had Mobil 1 10W-30. Take care of the MazdaSpeed now !

man, you guys are too anxious. im waiting to change mine until 7500 miles as the manual says. .. then next change would be at 15000 miles...

i changed my oil at 500 miles

why? I figured that as the engine breaks in it wears material off inside the engine which is collected by the oil.
When i changed it at 500 the oil was some nasty shit, complete with metallic tinge. sooooo, im happy i changed it, im gonna change it again soon at 1500 and am possibly going 5w30 mobil 1

See this makes sense to me... Although changing it again after a thousand miles seems a little premature, but hey I guess it can't hurt.

My only draw back about doing it so soon is that the new oil helps to seal all the new rings and seals inside the engine, so taking it out to soon, in theory, could possibly damage the engine, so i've been told.

This theory is well know in the volkswagen community. With the vr6 people usually wait for 6Kmiles for the first oil change. On this engine if you change the oil before it can burn oil after. Some people did exactly what you want to do: changing thet oil ASAP. You should follow the owner manual.

I changed mine after 1000 miles, then every 3000 miles thereafter. Mobil 10w-30.

I could be wrong but I thought I read in the manual that Mazda does not recommend the use of fully synthetic motoroils like Mobile 1:doh: .

But seems to me that like my Triumph Motorcycle our cars spend alot of time in the higher rpm's and thus would benefit from the longer lasting full synthetics.

I can't imagine why it would be harmful :dunno:

Well I know in my car it recomends a certain labeling to be on the oil used, and castrol syntec full synthetic has thats labeling mark. Also because my car is turbo it uses the oil to cool the turbo and the oil in my car can heat to extreme temperatures where regualr oil will tend to start to breakdown and burn. But synthetic oil can withstand the much higher temperatures. So for me it's an easy choice to run synthetic,
