New Bump stops when lowering?

I tried posting this on MSprotege.com and got no response, so ill try again here...I'm lowering my car this coming weekend (tokico HPs and tein stechs) and i was told when i asked a mechanic for advise, that i may need to get a new "allignment set" when i lower it...I'm not sure what an allignment set is, but im guessing it may include new bump stops. a friend of mine lowered his nissan and got KONI bump stops that are softer than stock...has anyone with a lowered car done anything like this? and if so, where can i find a good set of new bumps stops? thanks guys

Alignment sets probably means camber correction kit.

And I used my stock bump stops when I put my S-tech's on...no problems.

Now, there's no reason why you can't get aftermarket ones...but I was advised that I didn't need 'em.

BTW, car is looking hot..going to look even better once you drop it.

thanks man...i cant wait to get this car lowered, its been quite the headache, i just want it done already haha.

oh and the camber correction kit, is it necessary to replace when lowering? if so, is this something i could get at like autozone?

I never got a camber kit when I lowered my P5 on coil-overs. I just got a professional alignment done and that's it.

yeah well when i called my mechanic to schedule an allignment, he asked why and i told him that i was lowering it, and he gave me that whole line about 'allignment sets'....so you think he was just trying to rip me off??

JDM-P5 August-16th-2005 10:21 AM

Yes...all you need is an alignment...Karen's Banana is on coil overs...waaaay lower than yours and mine....all she got was an alignment and she's been good...that's all i'm getting too. If you start noticing the insides of your tires going bald then yes....but you won't need one I don't think. And if you do...I wouldn't suggest one from AutoZone...you'd be better off going on ebay and getting a progress or Ingalls kit....otherwise...dude is trying to get more $$$ from you. We know our cars....he doesn't.

awesome man, thanks, thats exactly why i come here for real advice rather than msprotege.com...there are some ppl there that know what theyre talkin about, but in general u get more questions than answers...thanks

No prob.

Thought I would back up what they said. I've got the Eibach 1.8 drop on mine and I didn't even need the alignment. So you should be good to go.

kargoboy August-16th-2005 12:15 PM

yep, what others have said is correct. if you are not going below 2" drop you will not need a camber correction.
an alignment is necessary (hughes, I dunno how you got away without one! mine was really out after I put on my Eibachs) and you will notice more wear on the inside of your tires over time.

JDM-P5 August-16th-2005 12:19 PM

I should be getting my alignmnt checked this week/end....i can feel the car pulling on me sometimes.

kargoboy August-16th-2005 04:52 PM

ha, my car wasn't just pulling, it felt like it was ll over the place and I couldn't control it, mostly at highway + speeds.

jbiird317 August-16th-2005 09:35 PM

yeah im definately gonna get the allignment...i need a new inspection anyway so i made an appointment and im just gonna kill 2 birds with one stone...thanks everyone for responding

I don't know either. But I do know I put them on and I'm very peticular about putting things back like it was. I've got almost 20k on the drop and I rotate my tires every other oil change and my tires are wearing fine.

That and with the fixed struts there really is no way to align the front except for the tow, which you shouldn't have had to mess with. Camber want ruin tires, look at the Vetts, old z cars and so on. The rears in these cars always run a - camber.

how much does an alignment usually cost?
