What's the trick to get the strips off the roof?

Are you referring to the plastic fill panels? Have you checked the owners manual?
They just pop out, if I recall.

Or are you talking about removing the whole roof rack bars? if so when i get home ill post the link/how to for it.

I've got the small cross bars off, but the long plastic outer shell seems as if it's going to break off whenever i try to pry it up.

I cannot view the link here at work, but i will look to see what's there when i get home.
