nasty crap on the windshield...
 

i have a buncha nasty crap ( not real crap, but nasty waterspot looking stuff) that WILL not come off
i have tryed everything i can think of, windex, ammonia, alcohal, scrubbing, nothing will get that shit off...
Should i try to go complain to the dealer ( the car came that way) or does anyone have a meathod that could work?

It's been said that the phosphoric acid (ph level of 2.8) contained in Coca-Cola can be used to clean all sorts of things. Using Coke on the windshield is actually an old trick, although I've honestly never had a reason to try it, so I can't speak from experience.

If you've tried everything else, then give it a shot... you never know. Pour some on and leave it sit for a few minutes. (Just be sure to put some old towels at the bottom of the windshield to soak up the excess.)

And to think we actually drink that stuff....

Three words. Stoner's Invisible Glass! Best window cleaner on earth, absoulutly will not streak, and will get almost anything off glass. Wal-Mart has it for around $4 a can.

This site might mentions Bon Ami Cleanser, but I would
be mighty cautious with this stuff...........I like to use newspaper
and Castor Super Clean..........the newspaper seems to be
slightly abrasive compared to cotton cloth. Finish off with
Rain-X.

Almost sounds like water spots etched into the glass - this does happen.

I would try the coke idea. Possibly another harsh chemical could be used too, like a sulfuric acid - hmmm...I wonder what drain cleaner could do?

Remember, glass is nearly impervious to chemicals - not much in the way of acids (or bases) can harm it.

Test a very small, inconspicuous area first to see about possible damage.

I saw on speed channel about using claybar on glass to get rid of water spots. I would try on small area to test. Good luck.

Well, if it's a weak mixture, then yes. I'll use quite a bit of ammonia, with a little water. (Incidentally, this is what I use to clean the outside of the windows where I live.) Works wonders.

Where would I get plain Amonia?

Ummm...ever been to a grocery store or supermarket? ;)
I wouldn't expect water spots to have any effect on visibility in the rain. You might need new wiper blades also (try the auto parts store ;)).

Okay... although this would be a last resort kinda thing, since I'm going to assume that Z me Pro would like to solve this issue with as little cost as possible... but...

Just for informational purposes, I called a local Harmon Autoglass here in Kansas City, and a new windshield for a 2003 P5 with tint shading at the top of the window was quoted at $247.29, labor and tax included. (That also comes with a new rubber moulding.)

Of course, I would probably try getting the dealer to replace it if none of the cleaner/scrubber/acidic beverage tricks worked. :D

EDIT: Z me Pro, did you use any of those "hot wax" treatments at a car wash? My last car had a problem with spotty stuff on the windshield that took a LONG time to finally wear off, but it showed up right after I tried using the "clear coat protectant" (as they called it) at one of my local car washes.

The owners manual for the Pro even says not to use these so-called "waxes" because it will seriously affect the cleanability of the windshield.

I know you said it came from the dealer like that, but it's just a thought. :dunno:

no i havn't taken it through any car washes or anythign like that, I always hand wash it so no kinda wax or anything would get on the glass.

i know ammonia doesn't work but i have yet to try the coke method, ill try it when i have more free time ( i assume it is kinda messy)

oh, i just remebered one thing about the spots, if you run your fingernail across the window you can feel them very faintly, therefore i assume they are on the window and not engraved into it or anything

No car wash wax, eh? Okay... I figured that was a long shot.

Hmm... I dunno, man. That almost sounds like a manufacturing defect to me. 'Tis a mystery indeed. :crook:
