MS Adjustable struts, rear sway bar, & Cams
 

I was just over at MazdaMotorSports and I saw this spiffy bit of information on the front page, just thought I'd share it with ya! [Insert Copy/Paste here!]

1999-2001 Protege Racers:

We now have Mazdaspeed adjustable struts in stock to make your already outstanding handling, even better. 4-way adjustable in front and 5-way in back. Will also fit Protege 5. works with stock diameter springs. Part #'s QBG5-34-700 & 900, and QBG5-28-700 & 900.

We also now have a 3/4" rear sway bar, part number. 0000-04-3302-AW.

If I go ahead and order the FS-ZE Intake camshaft, should I wait to have it installed until the JSpec Cams come in and have them both put in at the same time?

Also, what are the pros/cons about installing the MS Chromoly Flywheel that corksport sells?

Have them both installed at the same time or you will pay for the same labor twice. Not worth it. Also, see if you can find a shop that will give you a set price. If you goto a place with labor or time induced prices, if they run into a problem (which I did) that price can skyrocket quickly. To give you an idea, after I FUBARed my first attempt I got them installed for $200.00usd flat. Most of it was timing belt labor.

I learned the hard way, but unless you are 100% qualified to work on this engine don't do it. I'd changed a cam out before but never had as much problem with replacing the timing belt as I did in my 01 ES.

I had just assumed I was going to have everything installed by a shop, as to me not being THAT mechanically inclined to do internal engine work... so far, I've been able to install all my mods myself, but that's just all bolt-on stuff.

So, you're saying they should charge me ~ $200 to do the Cam gears and shaft?

How easy is the Flywheel to install? (should I just have the shop do that too?) And what kind of performance increase should I expect? (i.e. low-end torque? etc.)

i would expect the flywheel to be expensive to install, and I would wait untill i need to have the clutch replaced. the whole transmission has to be removed to have the flywheel installed. for instance, when i had the clutch on my ford tempo replaced, the new clutch cost about $100. well, the install cost upwards of $800 when all was done. so i would assume that to have the flywheel installed, budget $500-700.

Well you're only going to be getting the camshafts, still using the stock cam gears. But that price was because I knew the dealer well and had dealt with him before.

Don't settle for your first estimate and make sure you go in there and know exactly what you want and sound like you know what you're talking about.

Try using the search function. This information is available in the Engine/Drivetrain section. These parts, and several others, have been available from Mazda Motorsports for some time. The FS-ZE exhaust cam is the same as the US exhaust cam. The MazdaSpeed exhaust cam may provide very small additional gains to the FS-ZE intake cam. The MazdaSpeed flywheel isn't worth it, it's only 3lbs lighter than your stock flywheel at 15lbs. Search and you will find...
