moon roof - requirement for side airbags
Ok, I havent heard anyone mention they have the factory moonroof, nor have I seen to many pics from people that have the moonroof. I want the side airbags, so the moonroof is a must according to Mazda - am I the only one getting side airbags?
Has anyone heard of problems with the moonroof? |
I have both, and have had no problems with either.

The only thing (it's not a real problem) is the wind noise if you have the moonroof open, but can be reduced with a moonroof deflector. You don't have to get the factory one, they should do the same job.

Part of the wind noise problem with the moonroof is the cross bars for the roof rack. That seems odd that you have to have the moonroof to buy the side air bags.... Are you sure this is Mazda saying this or the dealership?
I don't have the moonroof myself, I opted for a car without to save me the near inch of headroom, it really makes for a nice tall interior space that everyone notices. I would love to have a moonroof again since it has been so long since I have had one, but even with the seat at it's lowest in the posistion I am comfortable in if I was wearing a hat or had "taller" a given day it would be brushing on the headliner and it wasn't worth it for me. |
asdfasdf
i don't know about the airbags but i know to get ABS you must get a moonroof....not sure why, except for the reason it will cost like an extra 1500 bucks....i dunno

Yep, it's mazda, even on the website. In order to get ABS & side air bags you have to get a moon-roof. Dont know why, but I want the abs & side airbags, so it looks like I'm getting a moonroog also. Just now dont know if I should get the deflector or not (factory or aftermarket)

I've got the moonroof on mine, and didn't have to get the abs. The only combo was abs/side airbags. Those came together, unless they recently changed it. I don't have abs or side airbags. I love my moonroof though. I took off the roof rack, and just put in the caps on the rails. Cuts down a lot on the wind noise. The deflector is supposed to help too, but I don't have one yet. Good luck. I would check on that moonroof/abs combo, cause I don't think it's right.

In Canada ABS is standard and the roof rack isnt an option. (nor side air bags) I imagine like Cowtown its the rack that adds the wind noise. I have the moon roof and no problems, leaks or wind noise... 10,000km. Lots of washing.

As other folks have mentioned, you have to get the moonroof to get ABS/side air bags in the U.S., but it doesn't work the other way around. That is, you can get the moonroof without getting ABS/side air bags. It *is* dumb, since I can certainly see why one might want ABS/side air bags and not want the moonroof.
I got the whole deal and actually have been thrilled with the moonroof. I've never owned a car with a moonroof before and I love it. You will want to get the wind deflector with it as it is a bit loud, but it's really fun to have when the weather is nice. And Pugsly, if you want to see pictures with moonroof and deflector, you can see mine at http://byrneweb.com/sunburn/newcar/ |
Maybe Mazda was thinking that just in case the ABS system fails and u're heading towards a truck, you can still jump out of the moonroof! *lol* :D

Just to clear the air. In canada the roof rack isn't available as standard equipment or as an option (like auto or Air). It is however available as a Mazda accessory at my dealer, I could roll in and pick it up or get them to install it if I was so inclined, which I am so very not inclined! ;)
This whole package deal with the roof and ABS and side air bags thing is messed up, no idea why they would do that. ABS was standard on our cars up here and I have actually grown to like it over time, I used to hate it on other cars in the past, but it has helped me a few times here and there and I am a pretty good braker as it is. The one thing though is that I would have liked to opt for the side air bags as an option, I would have gladly paid more for them... Wonder why didnt' didn't bring them? Shawn |
