Mileage with the WOMP

Just thought I'd start a new thread since it's more mileage based than WOMP based.

I've run 2 tanks of gas through the car since being boosted full time. Here's my breakdown:

Tank 1: 87octane stock P5 sparkplugs - 18mpg

Tank 2: 93octane stock MSP plugs - 23mpg

both of these figures are from city/highway combined and "pounding on it" about 3-4 times a day.

I'm pretty pleased. I'm getting almost the same mileage with my rich-running haltech under boost than I did with my stock ecu NA.... :bt:

Nice.....how did the stock plugs look after running that 87 ???

you didn't see the pics?? they were HORRIBLE....black soot, white electrode, melted casing!

it was obvious how rich the car was running.

Glad to see you womping it out. I've always womped what would happen to the womp mileage under womplike conditions.

Heh. ;)

well it all womps on how you womp it. If you just womp it off the line it'll suck womp. If you only womp when you need the extra womp it'll womp just fine.

you get a chance to tune yet ??? rich is better than lean, but washing the cylinder walls in gas isnt good either

I'm doing some LIGHT tuning this saturday when I dyno.

i could probably squeeze a little more out of it but I'm happy with it so far.

*not meaning to threadjack*

why did mazda make it heavy on fuel if its bad? wouldnt that make it use more gass and get less MPG?

melted plugs = wrong heat range.
generally, you should go one heat range colder if you are running a boosted engine with stock ignition timing. Remember that thread a while back, where I specified a number of plug options for the car? Check it out again if you get a chance. And, if you have a pic of the melted plug, I would be curious to see which part is melted. If it is the ground electrode, pre-ignition occurred and there could be similar damage to the top of the piston or adjacent to the exhaust valve in the combustion chamber.

And, I am looking forward to hearing more about your SC P5 when I get back to the states. As it is, I have missed out on too many threads!

23 mpg boosted is pretty good, if those numbers hold up. I'm starting to feel all wompy inside.
