MIght gt a P5 tomorrow, have questions

I am pretty sure I am going to get rid of my civic tomorrow and pick up a mica black P5. Does anyone have any complaints about there P5's? I just want to get some feed back from everyone before I go and put my civic back to stock tonight and trade it in tomorrow.

Great car. You will love it. My only complaint is a little more road noise in the rain than I would like. But some don't care, and from my expirience civics arn't the most quiet rides either.

To sum it up:
Its nice looking
handeling is world class
motor has nice wide powerband (wish it had a tad more, but I never feel that its underpowered)
interior in my opinion is the best looking in its class
quality is top notch
good safety rating
good on gas

They are becoming very popular and the aftermarket will be all over them soon.

I have one HUGE complaint: the stupid door lock sits right under your arm if you want to rest it on the edge of the door!!! :rant:

That's it though. I love my baby. She's the best car in the world!:bt:

Thanks you 2. I am pretty much sold on it I just wanted to see if anyone had problems. It sucks because I want one with out al the extra crap on it and there are only 2 in St. louis and they have no options. I either get a base with 5 speed or one thet has almost every option up to and including leather. I actualy don't mind not getting a sunroof, they are noisy on that car.:bt:

You'll love it... i'm sure... a sunroof deflector will cut down on the wind noise.... (I presume you don't have the roof rack as that causes the db level to go up) Had a deflector on my saab 900s and it worked like a charm

Yeah.... I got lucky in that respect as I sit far enough back that I can sneak my arm behind the lock... but I agree, it is a pain!

Other than that I have had my car for about 3 weeks now and have the following comments:

- wind noise, yup this one is addressed in other messages... I took the roof rack cross bars off and will put them on when I need them. I also bought the sun roof deflector as it makes a huge difference when you have the roof open... without it the car is way way to loud

- there seems to be some other wind noise coming from the upper driver's door corner (window seat?)

- there is a rattle on the right side of the car that drives me nuts when the stereo is off

- when the ashtray is fully closed it rattles... I just pull it out ever so slightly and it is fine. I think I'll tack a little piece of foam rubber to the back so it does not push in all the way when I close it...

- I hate that the lighter "outlet" is switched with the key. I like to leave the GPS on all the time

- no aftermarket stereo wiring harness for the '01+ Protege's that I can find! Makes putting a new head unit in a hassle unless you want to cut the wires or get really creative!

but other than small minor gripes it is a great car so far! And the one HUGE plus is how it handles... it is truly a fun ride!:bt:

You guys get a dump of snow during the winter in that part of NY
What are you doing for winter tires? and rust protection
did you get it from the dealer...
Personally... I will tell 'em its not worth it.

paulf November-9th-2001 11:06 AM

PS.... mine is silver too... no roof rack... but i did add a black bug/rock deflector... I'll wait for a bit...for the sunroof deflector...
I don't find it too bothersome

paulf November-9th-2001 11:12 AM

the noise that is

MYFBPEX00 November-9th-2001 11:17 AM

No rust protection added... the car came with some sort of rust guarantee as well but I forget the details.

As for the snow... Snow tires!... I just got them and will be going on the car once I get some cheper lug nuts (21mm outer, 12.5mm x 1.5 nut required). I went with a 4 tire package from tirerack on steel wheels (more durable for winter driving). Went down to a 15" rim as well. :)

was this an aftermarket thing or a Mazda part... I have thought about getting one of those.:dunno:

Same problem here. It's my wife's car, so when she in it. . . she's driving. When I try to get out, I have to get all contorted to unlock my door since there's no power lock switch on the passenger side.

When I'm driving, I miss my HUD. Since we have an automatic, I also wouldn't mind a selector indicator on the dash. Mainly because I'm still not used to reving so high, so I want to look down to ensure I'm in D. Again, just looking down to see what gear I'm in can be a bit of a task. Being a short muscular guy has many downpoints :(

I dont know if you got your P5 already...I hope you did:bt:

I LOVE mine!!!!

Great handling
Great looks (yeah baby...keep lookin:D )
Definite future in aftermarket support (ohhh yeeeeaaaah)
Very roomy and comfortable
Practical (its a wagon dude;) )
Lots of other GREAT P5 owners around to share ideas with!:blue:

Things I love:
* Handling
* Versatility
* Build quality/fit & finish
* Styling
* Interior space/comfort (great seats)
* Uniqueness (still not many of these on the road)
* Great standard feature list

Minor quibbles:
* Only one intermittent wiper setting
* Small center armrest/console
* Door lock nub
* CD player has no skip protection

Wind noise isn't so bad with the deflector.

Overall, a terrific car.
