Nice pics :bt: Where did you find them?

TheMAN, if you're reading this.. what exactly is the diff. between the tail lights on the mazdaspeed Protege (blue one) and the ones we've got here in America?

With the tail light assembly off it looks as if our tail lights here in the USDM list many types of bulbs that would be used in different markets as well as the ones used here..

Is it similar to how JDM civic tail lights have fewer reflectors than the USDM counterparts?

Cool, I'm gonna have to look into importing those, then :D

Sadly I think I know they cost an arm & a leg already..

if i were to powdercoat my racing harts to that gold colour how would i describe it to the powdercoating place?

JasonH September-8th-2002 05:27 PM

You wouldn't powdercoat them that color, you would, most likely, anodize them.

can anyone enlighten me by telling me the differences btw powdercoating and anodizng?

JasonH September-8th-2002 10:24 PM

When you see wheels that are gold, bronze, and grey or charcoal , they are typically anodized. Anodizing is a process that uses a chemicals and electricity to change the surface of the aluminum alloy. Powdercoating applies a coating to surface of the metal and is typically used on wheels for white, black and other bright colors.

You know, the more I look into this, the more I think a lot of current wheels are painted. I'm not sure where to find the specific information, put it appears that even silver-colored alloys are frequently painted. And I'm thinking that not all white wheels are powdercoated but merely painted with wheel paint(powdercoating will last forever unless it takes a nasty impact directly to it, paint can come off over time.) So, I guess what I'm saying is, you probably have some options.

Those gold rims look nice on the Familia. I'd like to get the projector beam headlights from that car though.

so you are saying if i want bronze i would have to anodize? So theres no Bronze powdercoating? Awww Man.....

Most wheels are painted and clearcoated unless they've been done aftermarket, which is extremely rare. Most wheel retailers will tell you the finish on the wheel. Typically, even polished wheels are clearcoated. Powerdercoated wheels do not have a clearcoat due to the manufacturing process, unless they've introduced a clearcoat that I'm not aware of, but it'd be a moot point; the powerdercoating leaves a much different texture than paint, and it's far more durable than any painted/clearcoated wheel would be.
