Mazdaspeed Muffler fit

I have a 00 protege lx. I have seen in other threads that the mazdaspeed muffler is highly recommended to add some deeper sound to the exhaust system. It may be a stupid question but I rather be safe than sorry. Can the mazdaspeed muffler for the 2003 be put on a 2000 protege? Thanks for any help,
JAke

It can be, but I think you'll have to do a slight modification. The mazdaspeed pipe should be larger than our exhaust. I have 2000 ES. But the difference isn't that much.

No modifications! :bt:
All of the sedan exhausts are the same. Doesnt matter what year doesnt matter what trim. :dunce:

I have a 2000 lx with the mazda speed exhaust. It fit like a charm and I installed it in 20 min in my drive way. Very easy.

ok cool, thanks for the replies. BTW how'd you do it in your driveway?

Step one take out your sissor jack from the trunk. And jack up the car.
Step two unbolt the two bolts on the stock axel back, two bolts thats all.
Step three pull off the hanger using a crow bar or something.
Take out the old axelback. Replace with new. assemble in reverse order.

Its really easy

...I had the benefit of using a hoist to put a Mazdaspeed muffler on my P5. But it should be a one beer job, even in the driveway. You are going to enjoy this rather simple mod.

how does it sound? I have an 01 protege and am thinkin of getting the mazdaspeed sport exhaust. I have an aftermarket exhaust and its too loud for me anymore. Plus it just brings too much attention. I do understand it will fit....

Wow this is an old thread, I forgot I even started this. I did get the mazdaspeed and I've had it on for about 1.5 years now. It sounds great, really deep but not loud enough to wake up the entire neighborhood. I also love the way the tip looks, I would definitely reccomend.

The sound is amazing, one of the best sounding exhausts around (for any car).
Deep and mellow, if you take it easy it will be nice and quite for you, however once your on the gas youll know it, and so will everyone around. (esp the cops)

I had this muffler on my '03 for about 6 months. When I bought my Racing Beat catback, I asked my gf if she wanted me to put it on her '99 which she did. She gives me grief about it if I complain about noise when I call her from overseas, saying it's my fault (actually it's the wind noise from her sunroof), but any time I have offered to put it back to stock she turns me down. I guess that means she likes it!

As for my Racing Beat, I have had several positive comments. Sometimes I wish it were a little louder for my benefit, but getting on it through overpasses is sweet! The oval tip is a plus.

i like how oval tips look

which mazdaspeed exhausts do you guys have....the racing beat or borla. I have been told that there was first a racing beat then they switched it over to the borla. That they dont make the racing beat anymore and that the borla is much louder. I am still looking to get it from my dealer and have them do the work.

Do you know what brand your muffler is? I cant even get the info from my dealer, and he cant get it from the warehouse. I dont want to get a borla or bosal and it be too loud. Unless anyone can tell me how the sound is for either one. I keep hearing that its a nice sound, but also that it is loud on a p5.

The MAzdaSpeed exhaust is a bolra its an actual aftermarket performance exhaust. And has a giant mazdaspeed on the side. This is the good deep sounding one.

The exhaust off a mazdaspeed, is oval tipped and and made by racing beat. This is the quiet one
