Riding the clutch basically means....
Revving the engine really high While feathering the clutch and letting it go on for a minute or longer when you only move about a foot or two. |
Re: Manual "Reverse" gear?
Originally posted by SirTidus I've bought the manual stick but I did test drive w/ auto (kinda weird, right?) cuz I'm just learning to drive manual last week!! Planning to get a couple more lessons from my uncle but a friend brought up today a question of how to do "Reverse" in P-5 I guess I can check it out when I've got the car but anybody else can let me know in advance? I've driven an old Civic for my lessons and how would that compare to the P-5 one?? i test drove on a manual when i bought mine. i'd only driven stick a handful of times before that. salesman was not impressed. :o but i really wanted a 5-speed. and i'm very glad i stuck with it. everyone's already got you straightened out on reverse i think. |
if I know only how to move and up/down-shift gears on a flat road, usually how much more time should I spend on learning before picking up my car?

ya, the one who taught me for an hour last weekend :-)
I'm gonna get him again for 2-3 hrs this week |

oh my... you sound real serious and seems like it's really hard to really learn it to the point where I can comfortably drive around the city...
Just to *learn* how to drive manual... usually how long does it take? |

Just to *learn* how to drive manual... usually how long does it take? it really isn't that hard. but to get to the point where you don't have to think about it anymore takes a little while. but it's not hard. i don't mean to scare you b.c you've made a good choice getting a manual. it's much more fun to drive. just one more degree of involvement with the car. i've been driving this car for 5 months now. 13500 kms. and i still make a mistake once in a while and stall or something if i have a brain fart. but it's not hard. don't worry. just be careful and you'll be fine. |
and DO NOT be like me and get caught up in the excitement of a new car and try to drive off the lot with the parking brake on!!!!!:o :D
have fun. |
Yes, work with the folks who you think drive a stick/manual well and you will get it in no time at all! Don't worry too much. It's not that hard to get familiar with.
