Which magazine said this?
 

I remember seeing a commercial for the Protege that quoted a certain magazine saying the handling was comparable to a BMW. Anyone remember which magazine and has a link to it. I would love reading that! Thanks!

I think it may have been Car and Driver, possibly a econocar shootout article.

Dont happen to see anything about the BMW handling comparison though just yet...

The Car and Driver article "Little Cars 6.1" had a 2000 Protege ES at the top spot w/ the verdict being "BMW verve at half the price".

0.79g's on the skidpad? Please tell me thats not true!

Lateral acceleration is only one factor in a car's handling capabilites. Just because the Pro only gets .79 Gs doesn't mean it handles like an SUV.

I was wondering that too... I thought I saw someone somewhere mention a 0.83g but I don't know. That's still very respectable but i was hoping something around the 0.88-0.9s....

Maybe with better tires and stiffer springs...

skidpad #s aren't the best measure of handling...in fact a poor one...they mostly measure how well the tires on the car grip with a given weight...in fact most hondas do poorly in skidpads b/c of high mileage skinny tires

the skidpad doesn't take into account a car's rotational inertia (how easy/hard to start/stop a skid) nor the effect of transfer of weight (overall weight and weight distribution)...for instance...the .94 for the nsx or the .79 for the protege does not even get close to how well they can corner on a track with decreasing radius turns or altitude changes in corners, etc. where a viper slide off the track

I totally agree its a poor rating. Its basically a deal where we need some way to rate handling in a way people like to relate to them, numbers, but can be pretty inacurate of how'd you do on a track on two different cars

I will add though that it depends on the honda your looking at, without even mentioning the nsx, the integra pulls mid .80s and the prelude pulls low .90s.
