Maf?
 

Ok i have a 99dx mazda protege 1.6L and i have a injen cold air intake. My check engine light has been on and off for the past year, and everytime it has had something to do with my MAF sensor. So if i replaced my injen cold air intake with maybe a Secret Weapon intake system or something else "open to suggestions" then do you think that it will stop my mass air flow sensor from breaking and keep my check engine light off? I know that the reason why the injen cold air intake ruins MAF sensors on the 1.6 because the injen cold air intake doesnt have much low end power which causes bogging which ruins the MAF but will a different intake do the same? Does anyone know what intake will work besides the factory air box? Open to any and all suggestions.

Factory airbox is the way to go, nothing works (you think its bad with an injen you should watch the car buck with a sri in, the injen was the only company that even came close to not bogging). There is only one known fix for the cel. You need to raise your fuel pressure. So go out and buy a fpr and youll be set just make it some 5psi higher then the stock fpr and the car wont run lean (causing bogging) anymore. Further more your maf dosent brake your motor mounts do, the maf is always fine if you just take the cai off.

Anyone wanna make recomendations on the fpu? OR is ebay brand just as good as brand name?

The problem isnt that my car is running too lean, its running too rich. Its backfiring and you can definitely smell the extra gas being used.

would i still need the FPR? Or is there something else that i can do?

The maf has problems reading the a/f in the cai. It doesnt read enough air so it runs lean for a second which throws the cel. Once the cel's on the car is in limp mode and burns alot of extra fuel with retarded timing all around.

If you were adding more fuel without the car knowing in the first place it would never go lean, so no limp mode so you run fine.
