LX or DX?

I'm thinking of saving up to get a newer Protege, but I have no clue as to what the difference is between an LX and a DX. Can anyone explain?

akaveli May-16th-2003 09:53 PM

DX basically doesn't have any features. The only feature it has is the CD player and AC. But performance wise it is the same as the ES and LX. From what I've heard. I could be wrong.

Same car but power nothing..:)

Installshield May-16th-2003 11:23 PM

Yeah if you are talking about a new DX it has the same engine as any 3rd gen except the MP3 and MSP. It doesn't have the power options or sunroof from what I can remember. I think the DX and LX have standard 15 inch wheels and tires, while the ES has standard 16" wheels and tires.

If it is a before 02 model I think it only has the 1.6L engine. The LX had it too I think (May have been the FP 1.8L on LX and ES models, but I can't remember-check the FAQ) and 14" steel wheels.

Is the ES any good? Or is that just like the LX?

leungwingkei May-16th-2003 11:46 PM

The ES has a black interior with silver trim, white face gauges, sport automatic option, sport seats, rear disc brakes, 16 inch alloys, spoiler and foglights. I think it has a firmer suspension also, I'm not sure.

in my opinion if you could care less about the lil features like power windows, the spoiler, silver gauge trim and all the other little things, just get the DX. If you plan on customizing your car too the DX would be better. You can add what you want on there. If your into the small features n stuff then the LX or ES is the way to go.

I got a 02 DX the LX was out of my price range lack of credit hehe but i got the standard 2.0 130 hp engine yeah it sucks i got no power locks or windows but i got AC and heater had a stock cd player. I dont really care for power options as i am trading the car in after i have it 2 years plus the lack of power options just leaves me more juice for my system hehe wich slams very hard.

From my understanding its this

all proteges have the 2.0 DOHC engine but the upgrades are as follows

DX: complete base, no power components, 15" wheels with hubcaps, black plastic mirros and side moldings

LX: adds on tachometer, 15" aluminum wheels, power windows/locks/keyless entry, cruise control, color matching mirrors and moldings

ES: 6 speaker sound, whiteface guages, 16" wheels w/ bigger brakes, spoiler, sunroof deflector

MSP: turbocharger, limited slip differential, different front bumper, bunch of other crazy stuff all over the place

I got an LX with a 6disc/sunroof, side airbag, abs, alarm packages... i love it, i think it was worth the extra few bucks a month

if you're going to finance the car go for the better model unless you're scraping by.. because if you can get it over 5 years, every add on costs only a few bucks every payment

I got the DX. The tach is really the only thing that I wanted the LX had over the DX. The money that I saved I figured I could put into aftermarket parts that I really wanted. I picked up a 02 DX last december for 12,500 incl ttl.

akaveli May-19th-2003 09:05 PM

:( yea that is the only thing that suck about the DX. Not having a Tach but other then that I LOVE THIS CAR!!.

Lazlo123 May-20th-2003 01:19 PM

I have a DX... the biggest thing i'm missing is no tach... at Circuit City it only costs 60 dollars a door to put in power door locks... so you can add those one at a time if you really wanted...

pluto316 May-20th-2003 05:08 PM

You forgot the P5:

ES with a hatchback.

Ditto. But when I have time/money/ambition I'm going to solve the tach problem.
