Low Idle - Mass Air Flow?
 

Hi All,

I have been reading alot about the low idle problems that others have had and I am currently having. I notice with my low idle that when I disconnect the Mass Air Flow Sensor connector, the car would idle at 1000 rpm. But as soon as I connect the sensor back in, it flucates between 300-1000 and at times stalls the car.

Is it safe to say the Mass Air flow Sesnor is shot or could something else (another reading from a sensor adjusting the Mass Air Flow sesnor) be affecting the Mass Air Flow Sensor? I ask because I have replaced the Mass Air Flow and still have the same problem (mind you I bought the second one from EBay so there is a slim chance I bought a bogus one!

As well I have replaced the 02 Sensor that is under the car next to the Cat Convertor with no change in the idle speed.

Anyhelp would be appreciated. I am in the process of checking the hoses, and the EGR thingy like some other threads have stated. I just find it funny that disconnecting my Mass Air Flow sensor and the car idles fine.

there are so many things it could be there is no place to begin...

don't ever unplug your MAF while the car is running. That's just asking for problems and irregularities.

What I'd do is make sure your required service is up to date...ALL OF IT. plugs/wires/EFI cleaning (especially). Make sure you're running good gas, then disconnect your negative post of your battery and press your brake pedal 5 times. Re-connect it and take it for a leisurly drive. This should reset everything. If after about 50 miles you still have the problem you need to have someone skilled with a multi-meter to check out your MAF voltages and make sure they are accurate. Also have the TPS voltage inspected.

If all else fails you can always just use the set screw on the TB to adjust your idle up a little.

disconnect negative and pedal 5 times resets ECU??? oh i didn;t know this LOL...

my idle seems a lil jumpy as well.. fluctuating between 500 and 800... just sometimes...

i do need 2 do a plugs change though...

ummm...are you throwing a CEL ????

The only reason that idle stablizes when you pull the MAF harness, is because you throw the car into limp mode and it runs off preset maps....it will run like crap when you step on the gas though....

We really need more info to diagnose a problem...it's pretty difficult to do over the net to begin with
