fog light question
 

Does anyone know how much it would cost to get the foglights and wiring that are available on the 01 es? Are there any aftermarket ones that would fit like the oem?

with as little light as the '02 fog lights on my P5 put out :rant: I would stay away from any OEM solution.... might was well see if you can get some real fogs on the car, not something that is purely decorative!

how in the heck do you get to your fog lights, i am trying to replace my fogs with different bulbs, any tips or tricks in doing this??? i can't seem to figure out where to start from???

if mjudson is here, he can explain it more clearly, but i saw his post from another forum regarding taking out and adjusting the fog lights.

Anyway, I'll just quote what he said for the benefit of other owners (hope he doesn't mind):

yesterday I was able to remove the fogs. it was real easy, one big nut that is directly behind the fog lamp. disconnect the wire and remove the 2 screws on the fog lamp it self. I bent the metal shield up untill it was squished against the glass cover. It probably only pushed up 1/2 inch which is good because I dont want to blind people. Then I readjusted the fog lamp mount. Now the top of my fogs touch the bumper.


result, they work awesome now. They now light up 10-20ft distance infront of the car. Plus I can see 45 degrees of extra light on either side of the car allowing me to see dark corners and curbs.


head lights just have one bolt, adjusted that and now i can see down the full length of road. Maybe too far down the road, but I notice they are not as bright as the fogs. Ill have to see how many people flash me during the week, or if they flip the rear mirror. But after 1hr driving last night, no flashes or flips.

Unfortunatle, I have to agree with you on this one...ALL SHOW, NO GO on the fog lights. Get some real ones (BTW, my friend tried to put some after market ones in himself, and he used an exacto-knife to cut the wholes out...BIG mistake! go get it done professionally)

I mounted Catz XLO driving lights in the stock area without cutting the bumper cover at all. I have a few pics posted on ProtegeTech in the Photos area.

All you have to do is change the bulbs over to piaa fog light bulbs , they are bright as hell and well worth the money , they should improve the amount of light that you get out of there significantly

What about the added heat... would there be reason for concern that the surrounding plastic could not handle it... am I being paranoid?

Overwatt bulbs?
 

Did anyone use overwatt bulbs in their P5? And if so, what kind and how many watts are they? The stock ones are 55W, so is it safe to use 100W H7s? I've heard that you could melt the lighting harness if it's made of plastic.

There are harnesses availible for many types of headlights. The harness taps directly off the battery so you get 12-14 volts instead of 9-12, and the stock wiring triggers them on/off. They're still plastic, but with thicker wires. Always a good idea to run the extra harness when using a higher wattage bulb.

If the car has Daytime Running Lamps, you can get pre-mature failure. DRLs are supposed run at a lower voltage, but when you run a harness, the bulbs are alway supplied full voltage.

Fogs with low/high beam
 

Does anyone know how we can make the fogs on the P5 operate independently with the lows/highs? I posted this question on a thread, but the whole thread is gone (i have no idea why).

Currently, if you have not noticed, the fogs go off when you switch to high beams and turn back on when you switch back to lows. And the fogs only come on when the lows are on (not the parking lights -- when you turn the light switch by one notch)

I would like to have the fogs turn on whenever i want it on (regardless of main lights) and remain on until i push the factory switch to turn it off.

anyways I hope you were able to adjust your fog lights. mine in stock condition are 2 times brighter than my lows which seem like flash lights. now to seperate the low/highs from the fog lights.

I really dont think changing the bulb is needed. Looking at the way the lense is cut, one should be able to remove (or push up)the hood over the bulb... put more light on the road and still be low enough not to blind anyone and still be useful in bad weather. A little re-aiming could help also. I imagine they put the hoods on for people you drive with them on continuously.

As for higher watt bulbs, my old car comes to mind... I put Hella 155 driving lights in it, decided 100watts are better than 55, put them in flipped the switch and watched all the wiring for them burn like a fuse! (Needed to double up the relay)

what size is the bolt for that one big bolt behind the foglight?
