Left door lock knob driving me insane...someone help?
 

Hi Guys:
Ok, being 6'4", I keep the seat all the way rearward. When the window is down, I like to rest my arm on the sill. However, the Mazda engineers gave me a lovely knob that sticks into my tricep that is annoying as hell. I removed the door panel and disconnected the knob and steel post it was attached to, so now it's smooth on top, but what I need now is a plastic piece that will cover the hole where the knob used to be.

Does anyone know if there was a model with the lock knob on the door handle inside that had a "blank" piece of plastic to go over the hole so that it doesn't look so crappy?

Nope it does'nt bother me at all. But then again I'am not 6'4' so I can't really relate I'am only like 5'10, 5'11 around there.

What I've heard other people do is to cut the metal rod down a bit, just enough so that when you put the plastic knob back on and the door is locked, the top is flush with the sill.

The only trick is that you cannot unlock the door by pulling up on the knob which is NOT an issue for you anyway if you are looking to cover it up (the locks are electric, so who cares?).

there is no trim peice that will fit in there....all 3rd gens door locks are like this...previous suggestion is a good idea if you have power locks

Dude, too cool. That's certainly another way to skin the cat. I wonder if the rod is flexible enough to have some "length" bent out of it...making it like an "S", rather than fiddling with the threads. Hmmm...I'll fiddle with it this weekend if I get a moment, and I'll post my results.
