Keyless entry on Protege

I've just purchased a 2002 Protege ES for my son and am trying to determine if it has keyless entry. It came with no transmitters but the car seems loaded (power locks, windows, Madza equipped alarm system) with just about every option. Is there a simple method of determining if it's just a case of getting FOB's and programming? It seems odd that it would have every option but keyless entry.

Thanks,
Tom

Yes, your car has keyless entry (but no factory alarm). You can either get an OEM keyfob (easily found on eBay. Your ES is basically a Protege5 sedan..same options, including wheels, dash, KEYFOB etc) and use this how-to to program it or buy an aftermarket one and have it programmed to control your OEM keyless entry.

Welcome to the club, Tom!

Keyless entry

The car does have a Mazda factory alarm. It's clearly visible when you look under the dash on the drivers side. I'm trying to determine if the car came equipped with a factory supplied key fob for keyless entry. I believe there should be a keyless entry control module under the dash but i don't see it. Is it a case of getting a Mazda control module and installing it? I did see (2) unused connector blocks (both had 2 wires going to them) near the factory alarm module and am wondering if this is where the keyless module goes.

Keyless entry on protege

The plot continues. I've ordered a used keyless entry module off ebay (part number BL8D-67-5DZ) including mounting bracket and the relay needed (BJ0G-67-830). I've already orderd the key transmitter. I'm hoping it's a direct fit with the existing unused harness terminals plugging into the new units.
I will keep you posted.

Tom
