Just saying hi and some pics of my MP3 *Updated Pics*

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say hi to everyone on the board. I've been a long time reader but never registered. Many of you probably recognise me from the www.mazdamp3.com boards. Here's a few pics of my MP3, I've had it since July of last year. Let me know if you have any questions.

It's about time you made it over here from MP3 land! You forgot to post pics of your Authentic HID headlamps. This is my alternate ID. I am LinuxRacr on that board. Welcome!

wazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzup!....is itr just me or does that first pic look photoshopped?

Section 8 May-17th-2002 07:40 PM

Thanks for the nice comments everybody. Yes you do lose high beams when you put HIDs into the MP3 housing because there is only one bulb for both high and low beams. The pics are not photoshopped, but now that I look closely, I can see how you might think that...what you're seeing it the crappy resolution of my the camera I used, i couldn't find my nicer one, I'll take some better, higher resolution shots in a little bit and post those for you.

ARD MP5 is in the process of getting me the hookup on some HID's that retain the high beam function.

Section 8 May-17th-2002 08:06 PM

Linux, I've worked with those HIDs that have the high beam function, they just seemed too gimmicky. They allow the use of the high beam by moving a mirrored reflector though motors and extra relays..it just feels to me that there's too much stuff that can fail or break with that setup...there is only one H4 HID kit with high/low beam that I would use and it's the Japanese made Bellof kit..but it's mucho money..like $1800 US dollars...

no the rims do look good

Section 8 May-17th-2002 09:49 PM

Yes, retrofitting HIDs into a housing designed for halogens is illegal and will cause hotspots and strange beam patterns and such. BUT, you also have to remember that the changed beam pattern is not all that different and is DEFINATLY usable light. The bottom line is that with HIDs the headlights are brighter, shine farther and look a lot cooler with just slightly more glare, I have yet to be flashed once with my HIDs and I've had them for over 6 months now. I've driven alongside cops, driven past cops, and even sat at an intersection directly across from a police officer, not once did they give me a second look. Now I'm not condoning breaking the law or guarenteeing that if you retrofit HIDs that you will not get a ticket but I really do believe that the chances are very slim that you will.

what kind of rims are those? how much?

Section 8 May-17th-2002 10:25 PM

The rims are Volk Racing GT-Cs in Gunmetal. www.importhookup.com has them on sale right now for $1650 without centercaps for 17x7s 18s are a bit more. Centercaps are $30 a piece. If you want these ask rishie over in the Rims and Wheels forum, i bet he can get you a pretty good deal.

The Man: Of course...mainly people do need to know that the beam pattern will not be as good as stock..pretty darn close but not quite as crisp. :)
