Jerky in traffic

I have what I think is a very common condition on my wife's Pro5. I've noticed this on most FWD manual transaxle cars I have driven (all with fairly high miles). When we got the P5 new it was of course very smooth and responsive all the way around. It is still responsive and rides smooth when on throttle but tends to buck or jerk if you are bumping along in stop-and-go traffic. Let me be more specific...

If you are bumper to bumper on the interstate and you smoothly slip the clutch as you engage first gear to get moving everything is good. Accelerating everything is still good. If you let off the gas as traffic stops again, the weight of the car shifts forward and the engine switches from powering the car to engine-braking. During that switch the transition is more dramatic than it was when the car was new. I have a guess what component(s) are worn and responsible for keeping that under control, but I want to hear other's thoughts before I buy parts. Let me know if I haven't described the situation adequately.

Thanks.

Fred

How many miles on the car? Could be a motor mount issue.

Ive noticed that in mine too, and it's lower miles (about 57k)... The car jerks when you are no longer pressing the pedal and are just cruising in gear....if its a manual u can see the stick actually jerk with the car, so i think it may be tied into the transmission

definitely a motor mount issue. The mounts on these cars are very soft, and known to not last much past 50k miles. Get them checked, I bet at least one of them is bad.

Same with mine with 61K miles. I've known the top motor mount was shot for a while. New mounts should fix it.
