Intercooled Turbo Kit Feedback Please!
 

Hello everyone I am the manager of a high performance tuning shop that is currently working on our turbo kit for the P5 and MP3. I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys as to what kind of features and price you would need to seriously consider purchasing the kit. I am trying to ensure that our kit can be finished quickly and be a good value to make it as attractive as possible. This is the specification that we are working on:

T-28 Ball Bearing Turbo
Fittings and Lines
Remapped ECU
Bar and Plate Front Mount intercooler
Cast Manifold
Stainless Steel Downpipe

We are looking at around 7 PSI for the kit and approx 200 flywheel horsepower. Please give me some feedback as to what you would like to see on this kit and what you would be prepared to pay for it with an ECU that you just plug in and drive. We are also looking at other performance parts as well such as aluminum radiators, turbo back and cat back exhausts, air intake, coilover suspension and possibly a 4 wheel big brake kit Thank you very much for your time.

If I decide to go turbo I would want everything needed to run it, pretty much. I would like between 200 and 220 hp at the crank, and a price of $3500us or lower. Is it possible for you to make this happen? If so then I might go the turbo route.

It would be also nice if a variety of engines and not just the 2.0L

As far as pricing, well CDN dollar SUCKS!
But if it is with in reasonable price I'm sure group buy would help most of us over here.

Thanks for the responses.Keep the feedback coming guys. We are only currently working on the 2.0 liter engine but we are also looking at the new 2.3 liter as it will be showing up in the next Protege according to our sources. Thanks guys.

What kind of time line are we looking at here, is it gonna be soon or is this like a late fall early next year thing. I'm dying for a turbo.

I would make a move on a kit around 1000 Us...I know it's not much, but I would be very happy with only 160 hp at the wheels...Hence, would not need all the upgrades....

I'm glad to see someone is picking up the aftermarket pace for the 2.0L, and I'm sure you'd sell plenty of turbo kits at any price.

For me the price would be dependent on fit, finish, performance and tunability, but for a really fine complete kit @ 7psi, I'd go as high as $4K, I'd have to be impressed though.

Also, if the 2.0L becomes a 2.3 next year, your market willl be small unless there is intercahngability between them. This means you'd have to come to market pretty quick, before exiting 2.0L tuners go another direction.

As you may have seen, there are plenty of people interested in FI. I am very interested as long as it is a bolt on application. Could you provide a little more information about your company? Do you have a web site? I'm sure you are still developing things, but once some of the parts are ready, some pictures would be good to see what you are making avaialable. For what you are offering, I would expect to pay about $3000, maybe more if the look of the kit blows me away with looks, ease of install, and quality/warranty. Keep up the hard work and let us know when there is more info please. Thank you!

to me the name of the game is 200 hp, if u cann get us there i think that 3-4000 is an acceptable price, and yeah it should be just a bolt on app. Also i agree with what someone else said a blow off valve is key

by the way wat can u tell us about ur 4 wheel big break kit

hey THOR here is a little help the 2.0 motor is the same as the 2.2 in the ford probe gt turbo ...... so if you can see if the exhust manafold fit the head of the 2.0 then there is not much you can do , if it fits there is the turbo , manafold , ? blow of valve ? , piping and intercooler basicly almost everything you need for the set up ........this is my 2 cent , it might help someone out there with alot of money to play with :blue:

I am looking for emission legality and reliability.
I don't know much about turbos, but I am willing to pay up to $3000 US for emission legal kit which will not blow my engine after few months. Anything above 180 hp at the flywheel is acceptable, its always possible to add power later by raising boost, increasing fueling and lowering compression.
Hey, just putting 3" exhaust will give extra ~15 hp on turbo engine :)Don't forget about stickers too :)

I don't think that 2.0 liter will disappear-it will stay in base Protege for years

Hello everyone. We are trying to make this kit as close to OE as possible which is why it is taking some time to develop. For example instead of using a TEC-2 or Link for management we are working on reprogramming the original ECU for this application to maintain good driveability and hopefully C.A.R.B approval. For this low boost kit it is the best way to go for keeping costs down as well as giving the customer a vehicle similar to factory spec. We are shooting for 200 horsepower and beleive a little more may be possible. Obviously there will be people looking for more than this figure which we will be happy to accomodate further down the line with bigger turbos, internals, management etc. As for pricing we are still working on it as we put the finishing touches to the kit. Unfortunately it will be more than the $1000 someone suggested earlier.;) The 4 wheel brake kit is already underway, but we are not convinced people are willing to pay for the upgrade on these cars? Let me know what you would be prepared to pay for a name brand brake system that has 12 inch front and back rotors and 4 pot calipers front and back. Thanks again for your time and help.
