Idle from hell

These last two weeks my idle has been going to hell and I cant figure out why, plugs and wires were replaced this summer and im sure not throwing any codes or anything. Anyone have any tips for smoothing out the warm idle, my feet go numb at any stop light i hit. . . but as soon as I get moving the car feels completely normal.

Make sure you don't have any vaccuum leaks ... look closely at all the little hoses and connectors to make sure they're nice and snug. I had a problem like that this summer and it ended up being a disconnected hose right by the throttle body.

You're not using Bosch right? Remember NGK + Mazda

Hell if they don't have them at your local stores, give Ken@ProtegeGarage a call. I think you can get them for like $15 shipped through his website ..

EDIT: $10.95 Shipped

also, check your EGR valve and IAC both of which when dirty with carbon will mess up your idle.

^werd. A 'hunting idle which revs/dips indicates a vacuum leak.' A low idle is generally an EGR for us.

Cleaned the egr last week. . . good work reading the rest of the thread before you posted.

Anyways vacume lines seem alright, ive noticed that the idle gets three times as bad when I turn on the fan on the inside, im gunna get the alternater checked and make sure its working alright. Got new spark plugs yesterday and im gunna try to get them in today. thanks for all the help

Ah. 'geeting the egr bs' = removed and cleaned the EGR. Got it!

Have you checked the PCV valve? Does it rattle? Ever been changed? Could cause similar problems.
