How's your Paint holding up?
 

Hi, i just got a P5 and got Vivid Yellow, how about you? and how's your paint holding up?

All these Paint Problems are making me Scared..:(

Welcome to the board... what paint problems? :/ my third gen doesnt have a paint problem.

Outside of all the chips on my front bumper that I've gotten in the short 3 months I've had my car, the paint is holding up great.

I've already got more chips on my front bumper than my Dakota 4x4 had in 2 years and 45000 miles.

I just got my pro5 three weeks ago. It's white, and I'm not very happy with the paint. It has all those little rust looking spots that seems to be on every white car. I just didn't expect them to be all over the place before 1000 miles. I haven't applied any cleaner, wax, or polish yet so we'll see. Also the the surface of the paint is a bit rough when polishing(spray detailer)with a microfiber cloth. You can feel the spots as you clean. Oh well, it's a car and this earth is so polluted it's impossible to have perfectly clean paint. I'm picturing car condems in the future!

Well, everyone here seems to say how crappy cheap and thin their paint is on their P5, so i was just wondering what the situation was on this topic. I'm kinda worried. I read in one other forum that some guys' yellow protege had paint flaking off the hood!:eek:

I had a piece chip off my driver door handle.. NOT HAPPY..

I don't even know how it happened either. I was getting into my car one time, looked at the handle, and started to cry.. :(

I also have a bunch of little pits on the hood now too, AND pits on the windshield..

Damn... wish mazda would have double dipped my car body.. maybe the paing would last longer then..

I waxed both my cars this weekend. I started with the 94 Grand Am, and was a little ticked at the amount of bare metal I could see on the hood from paint chips. I did the P5 the next day and had almost as many!! I'm still under 5K miles and things are just not looking to good. I'm gonna need a new hood by 30K for sure! :eek:

Thats rail dust. You need to take it back into tyour dealership and have them do fallout on it to remove the raildust. I used to do it at a mazda dealership all the time. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

I just washed and waxed my car today and it is almost 2 months old with 2500 miles. I found about 4 chips in my hood. I have been thinking about getting one of those magnetic car bras since I got the car. I saw protege5online has them on sale so I think I will be getting one.

I have a claybar from Zaino and it claims to remove all surface contaminents including rail dust.

I have a 2002 Sunlight Silver Metallic with just under 5000 miles. Because of the experience I've had with other vehicles, I had the Mazda bug bra installed with the car when I picked it up from the dealer.

You might like or hate the look of bug bras, but they do their job avoiding chips. I remove it when I wash/wax the car and I have no paing chips at all on the front end.

The combination of the areodynamic design of the front end (of all cars), to get better gas mileage and the newer environmental friendly paint formulations make cars prone to chipping on the front.

I have a 95 Honda Accord that has "worn" a bra since new and the hood on that car looks perfect also. Different era car, with different (much thicker) paint, but shows where the junk is being thrown up on the highways.

The magnetic bra is a good idea. I was going to go with one of those, but I got the dealer to throw in the bra as part of the deal.

It's a bit of work, but does pay some benefits. Seems nothing's free.

What is rail dust? It that the little rust spots all over my white p5? How do they remove the rail dust?

Codename, Rail dust is tiny flecks of steel from the railroad track and train wheels. It settles on the cars. Over time it rusts and stains the paint.

On the subject of bras: Has anyone tried the transparent 3M stoneguard film? It's supposed to stick on with a very mild adhesive to prevent chips.

I have a white P5 with those rust specs all over too. That's industrial "fallout." Try a claybar---mine came off easily with that thing!:)

After 36 Days and 2925 miles (mostly highway), I have suprisingly found no paint chips on my ride.
