How to reset the ECU ?
I would like to know if I need to reset the ECU after replacing the stock air box by a K&N air filter .
If so, how do I do it? I have a Mazda Sport20 4WD (like the Protege5 in America but with the FSZE engine delivering 170 HP) thanks in advance! |
Disconnect the battery. :D

Ya but the Sport20 isn't turbo :D
Like mention disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10-30minutes. Can also bump the brake pedal when it is disconnected to discharge any excess charge in the capacitors. Then reconnect, turn on and let run for around 10more minutes to relearn the car. |
Not turbo huh?
Take a look more closely ;-)

thanks to all for your comments,
I will try that and get back to you to report the improvement if any. |
Nice scoop but if you have turbo then you have more than 170, and I am not seeing any visable outside sign of it. Course I could be blink as it is a Monday here in the US and little low on coffee. :)
The ZE produces 168-170 hp. It is the FS-DET that is turbo with 170. Did you get the ECU reset properly? |
ReMillers, the scooper is a quick photoshop job to tease you;-)
The scooper is from a Celica. I really do have the FS-ZE 170HP not turbo. With the muffler ans the intake, it is maybe closer to 180 now. |
it is 1:40 am here now in Tokyo..I will check tomorrow morning and report.

I believe you on the ZE...Hmmm you want to trade your ZE for my FS-DE motor?? :) Come on 130 raging Horsepower!!! :(
The photoshop actually looks good, be neat to see it produced. |
better now!
I reset the ECU by unplugging the minus side of the battery and pressing the brake pedal several times. I waited two hours and replugged it.
I went for a drive, about 25 km, and I noticed less hick-ups from 500 rpm to 3000 rpm when starting slowly from a stand still. It is hard to be sure though because it is colder tonight (about 23C vs 30C before). |
