how many people have tried this one?

hey as i was sitting around today with the wife and kids i had a brain fart. what if itook a vaccum cleaner motor and fan and some how implanted it into the intake plumbing. i could make a aluminum box to incase everything in add (2) 2 1/2 inch inlet out let pipes for the air to flow threw.. so basically it would go like this..from the throttle body you have you 90 elbow then as you travel down the intake tube you would see a box shape in the box would be the vaccuums suction jamming everything towards the mouth of the throttle body..i not sure what where it would be best to place it before or after the mas. i would imagine before that way the car can make up for the larger air intake it would have... also what size would the motor have to be, it would have to flow faster then the air in the intake tube or else its pointless...also i would make it a wot only that way its not making all that noise when your sitting at the light..i would like to get a small 6 gallon shop vac and see if that would do the trick. as anybody tried this im sure somebody has?..it wouldnt be smart for a turbo guy but those of you that want to stay na it may work..what do you guys think?

KrayzieFox April-21st-2007 04:18 PM

I don't even know what to say to that .. it's a pretty wild idea I guess. You won't know until you try it I guess ..

tooslow April-21st-2007 04:25 PM

lol..you think it would smarter just to hook a ram air setup but wheres the fun in that...i was just wondering thats all im buying a turbo kit from this super cool dude on this forum , so i wouldnt use it anyways...but if somebody out there wants to make what i call THE SUCKERCHARGER i will gladly help out anyway i can..the name took longer to come up with then actual idea.

KrayzieFox April-21st-2007 04:36 PM

Well it was a pretty wild one. So congrats, it's your 100th post and you get NOTHING!!

tooslow April-21st-2007 04:38 PM

i dont know what to say...i would like to thank my mom and dad and mostly my wife for boring the heck out me so i turn to internet for enjoyment..thanks for all of those little people who got me to where i am today

KrayzieFox April-21st-2007 04:48 PM

Don't forget to thank Jesus first and foremost ..

dentinger April-21st-2007 06:55 PM

one guy on here was thinking about hooking a leaf blower up to his intake or whatever an making a "turbocharger"...

lets just say we all called him retarded for thinking so.....

and the intake already make ALOT of suction as it is....
my auto teached said that if you put your hand right over the throttle body it would rip the your skin right off.....
BUT.. im not about to try to prove him wrong....

Jackelope April-21st-2007 07:15 PM

^ hm.. interesting... what you got under the hood? well.. a Vtec electrolux!

tooslow April-21st-2007 07:27 PM

lol nah if i build one prototype its gonna be a hoover. those babies are loud as he**.

Jackelope April-21st-2007 08:08 PM

haha.. hoover.. nice... need a license plate G0T DIRT

tooslow April-21st-2007 08:59 PM

thats funny..lol..anyways how about this brain fart...i saw a dude on a forum cant remember which one though had a rear mounted turbo protege..lets take my kit right install it then adda rear mount for the first ever twin turbo protege..or if that doesnt wet your whistle we could take womp kit and throw a turbo on and have a twin charger..or womp+turbo+rearmount turbo..lol..twin turbo supercharger..the motor code would look like this fsdetts..lol ohh yeah

hey who here watched horsepower TV on spike tv???
those guys wouldnt know how to install a turbo if their life depended on it!!!

they had a newer corvette, and they put a dual turbocharger on it... the retarded thing about it... they put the turbochargers in the rear bumper.... and ran piping thru the underbody and stuff.....

turbo lag anyone???

KrayzieFox April-22nd-2007 01:09 AM

Kinda like this?

hope the dont get rearended

eggynatey April-22nd-2007 11:30 AM

A vacuum or leaf blower won't compress the air like a turbo/supercharger. :(

The compression's where the HP comes from.

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2007 03:21 PM

I am not interesed in making anything else for the protege market. I unloaded my p5 and dont have the resources to spend on another fruitless project.

KrayzieFox April-22nd-2007 03:53 PM

So Roddimus .. what was it that killed the WOMP project again? Lack of funds, time, materials, etc.? If that project could ever come back I would be sooo happy. Supercharging the auto would be so much safer than turbo but I guess I'll just have to be careful with the boost instead..

Roddimus Prime April-22nd-2007 06:56 PM

not to get too far off topic but it was a constant barrage of setbacks that caused me to shut it down.

1. people stealing my money/parts
2. cost to fabricate on a larger scale
3. Time it took to hammer out any and all problems (can't have warranties so it needs to be right the first time)
4. lack of time for me to work on it.
5. powerdyne re-nigging on our original agreement of price and availability of blowers

basically anything that could cause a problem, did. I could reasonably start it back up again but not for another year or so. When my wife goes back to work I've thought about leaving my job and opening my own shop to finish all of these projects I've got half-done.

You guys haven't even seen my NA protege stuff i've worked on some.....

just no time anymore when I'm working for someone else.

Weeellll... There is a video of a guy that blows a leaf blower directly into the intake and the dyno showed crazy horespower.

BUT:
Rigging, starting the leaf blower etc. make it impractical.

Yes, it will 'compress' the intake air if there is no way for it to leak out. Just like a turbo or super charger. The stock intake has holes for the water to drain out. This would leak away the 'compression'.

The electric fan ('Electric Supercharger') idea has been around but these are inefficient and the gains are minimal and you must account for the additional load on the engine through the alternator. Net gain is not worth it.

BOOSTD 7 April-23rd-2007 10:00 AM

I doubt any electric fan will be able to compress air and produce any boost at all. But it's pretty easy to find out, put a boost gauge after it and see if it ever moves off 0. Compressing air is harder than you think, all the rules of Atmospheric Thermodynamics would be out the window if that weren't the case ;)

This idea has been around for a long time, and I've never seen anybody produce improvements. The problem is while the fan probably blows more than the engine naturally draws and part-throttle, they

Jackelope April-23rd-2007 11:30 AM

they... dont blow more air than full throttle?

You gotta realize, turbo's spin insane RPM's ... like 40000 at least, sometimes much more. Also the shape of turbo housings and their blades are able to compress the air. These electric fans, even big ones, just can't flow even a small percentage of what a turbo does. Then think about your motor - it's essentially a big airpump. And when it's pushing 5000rpm or higher, it draws a LOT of air all by itself.

There may be an electric fan somewhere that can flow a lot of air at high rpm's, but if there is it probably will draw a ton of amperage from your car. Then the problem of unless it's on, it's just an inline restriction to airflow.

My advice is simple, forget about it ;)

Jackelope April-23rd-2007 12:27 PM

i was just guessing what you were gonna say.. you kind of left it hanging with the "part-throttle, they"

Well obviously the air draw of a motor at part throttle is much less than it is wide open, so an electric fan might be able to keep up at part throttle. That's what I was getting at, but who cares if it's a restriction at full-throttle.

tooslow April-23rd-2007 01:09 PM

yeah i figured the outcome was dim i was just on an idea hunt thats all..lol....so while we are on the topic of stupid ideas would hooking up a oxygen tank to your intake be a negative or a positive?..

eggynatey April-23rd-2007 01:14 PM

Imagine one of thoise plastic fan blades getting sucked into your intake mani.

Pure oxygen + underhood temps =

That's all NOS is, a higher Oxygen content gas.

Actually rear mount turbos wont have any lag if set up right. It isnt just a turbo on the back and piping to the front.
