Help finding K & N filter

I cannot find a K & N drop in for my 2002 mp5. I have tried NAPA and they say they are none in Colorado, Texas, California or Arizona (i am in New Mexico). None of the performance shops here have them. I tried the K & N website and they don't list any parts for the 2002.
How/where did you guys find yours?

thanks

Same filter as all other Proteges (IIRC)

I'm pretty sure the K&N filter for the 2002 P5 (and other 2.0l engines) is the same as that for all older Proteges. A quick way to confirm would be to check the OEM part numbers. If they're the same ....

You could also ask a quick lube place like Jiffy Lube to check the recommended part numbers for older and newer Proteges.

If that's the case, the K&N website lists like a million local and online stores that will sell it to you. I bought mine for around 30 shipped from one of the listed online sellers.

On the subject of the K&N, does it improve performance at all? My budget won't allow an Injen CAI right now but I'm thinking of going with the K&N until May 2003 at which point I'll install the CAI.

Naahhh, not really worth it for you!

There is an almost imperceptible increase in eagerness to rev, and possibly a better low-end but this might just be a placebo effect!

Also, given that this is a lifetime filter, and one of its huge advantages is you clean and recharge it and throw it back in - it doesn't make sense to buy this as a stop-gap purchase. Hold of on it, and put the saved $30-40 towards your upcoming CAI upgrade :)

However, if you need a filter now anyway, this only costs slightly more than twice the cost of the OEM paper filter, and you could sell it to someone for half price when you get the CAI, so ....

you should be able to get one from nopi.com, I think they list for about $29

K&N gets rid of hesitation from a stop. If you have even a slight hesitation, the K&N filter is not really that expensive and worth evry cent. Ever so slight change in sound, but that might be in my imagination!! :)

I got mine from www.nopi.com . It was quick easy and relatively painless. DOes it do much? Nope, but hey its nice to have. :D
