Headlights Burning Out- Any Recent Inovations?

New memeber here, and happy P5 owner (it's a 2002, dead stock, and I bought it new). I have had lots of trouble with headlights burning out. I did a search, but found only a thread that was three years old, and offered no fix for this anoying problem. Is there a fix?

Thanks,
-Scott

Welcome to the forum.
It's been a while since I heard anyone complain about this. I dunno if I can help you but what kind of bulbs are you using as replacements?

I have the perfect solution for you.

Find a dealer in your area that sells PlasmaGlow bulbs (performance shops). They are guaranteed for 10 years, and the dealer will replace them free if they burn out (keep the receipt).

I had the same trouble, put these PlasmaGlow bulbs in and they've been fine for a while now. About $45 a pair.

Kargoboy-
I've had a variety of brands in there, always with the same results. I've never used anything special.

J-
Thanks for the tip. $45 for a pair for 10 years is a bargain. Mine last about 4 months. Are the PasmaGlow in stock wattages and color?

Thanks for the quick responses!

Yeh, just bolt on no modifictaion. You can get em in almost any color. I like the HID blue, but if you like white light better, get the 'platinum' ones. Our Mazdas use H4 bulbs, mine does anyways.

I am currently using Nokya Yellows, Running a year and half with heavy Audio System use.

prior to that i ran PIAA Plasma Purples and they blew out 6 times within 2 years, kept having them replaced.

But its funny cause I still have my 2001 STOCK Protege bulbs and i keep switch back to them to date they are still alive.

If yo ucan find stock bulbs i would go to them if you cant stand blow outs

Stock bulbs aren't the nicest color anyways. Might as well go for the ones with the better warranty. Even if the stock ones last 5 years, buying 2 sets would still be more expensive than Plasmaglow's 10 year bulbs.

Just my $0.02

My stock bulbs lasted 3+ years. The Sylvania Silverstars[tm] won;t last more than six months to the DAY! I have started to buy a new one every six months to anticipate the failure! :P

I would rather do it once and have a warranty!

I ordered the Plasmaglows yesterday. Different colors are different prices. I opted for platinum, which was $69.99. Free shipping, though, dirrect from Plasmaglow. I will keep you updated about burnouts. A warranty is great, but if you still have to replace them every 4 months it is still a PIA!

I agree with you there. I've had mine in for about a year, no problems to date. As well, if you find a dealer or performance shop that sells them, you can get them to replace the warranty'd bulbs, rather than have to mail them back for the warranty. Makes it a little easier.

I'd like to see what my car would look like with green or purple lights though. Too bad I can't justify spending over $50 on something I cant use on the road...
